Finally: First Full Star Trek Trailer In November

10 October 2008 8:48 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

TrekMovie got the scoop that we will finally be seeing a full trailer for the new Star Trek movie next month. This will not be a teaser but will include both exterior and interior shots of the Uss Enterprise as well as scenes of crewmembers speaking dialog from the film.

In addition Paramount will also start lifting the veil of secrecy that’s been surrounding the production.

There’s no word on which November release the trailer will be attached to - the only two Paramount films coming out are Madagascar 2 and The Soloist. Neither of those seem a fit for the premiere of what Paramount hopes to be a big blockbuster for next Summer. TrekMovie points out that other big and semi-big movies opening next month include Quantum of Solace, Disney’s Bolt, Australia and Twilight.

None of those are Paramount films but it wouldn’t be the

Rating: 8.5 out of 10

I'm still kicking around the Edmonton International Film festival but, since I've got about three hours to kill before Midnight Meat Train screens, I thought I'd take some time out from schmoozing (and eating way too many of those leathery theater hot dogs *hacks*) to talk about Tomas Alfredson's brilliant Let the Right One In as well as do a little moaning about the prospects of this much ballyhooed remake.

Our Cali correspondent Cyberhal pretty much summed up how I feel about the film in his own review of Ltroi from the La Film Festival so I'll do my best to leave out descriptions of magical snowfalls and the power of understated acting and just talk about my gut feelings. Basically, my gut's telling me that Let the

'Fringe' Gets Full Season From Fox

1 October 2008 11:34 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

Attracting those special demographics that advertisers love seems to go a long way for Fox. The network has ordered a full season of "Fringe," its lead-out show from "House" on Tuesday nights, making it just the second new show this season behind The CW's "90210" to get such an honor so far. "We're having a blast working on this show with this great team of producers," Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly told TV Week. "The series has really taken off creatively, and it's exciting to see that the audience is responding. We believe this is the first full season of many years to come." "Fringe" is the latest project from J.J. Abrams, and brought in Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman -- the writers of the upcoming "Star Trek" movie -- to get the show off the ground. While the ...

Review - 'Fringe' - The Arrival

1 October 2008 3:09 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

The following contains Major Spoilers for "The Arrival," the fourth episode of the Fox series, "Fringe.""It has arrived," says a peculiar bald man called The Observer as an egg-shaped torpedo emerges from the ground. The same statement could be said of "Fringe." This program is catching its stride. Agent Olivia Dunham and her team are called in to investigate the torpedo, which surfaced with destructive force at a construction site. Unknown to them, before the torpedo's arrival, The Observer (Michael Cerveris) was patiently waiting nearby, taking notes and scanning the scene with high-tech spy glasses. He soon makes a phone call, confirming the device's appearance to an unknown party. Dunham is informed this mysterious device appeared once before in 1987. Little was learned other ...

Younger Adults Seem To Love 'Fringe'

1 October 2008 3:08 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

It might lose a decent part of the audience tuning in for "House," but adults 18 to 49 have made it clear: they're interested in seeing more "Fringe." The J.J. Abrams Fox series earned a 6.2 rating/9 share Tuesday according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research. It finished third for the 9 p.m. timeslot behind "Dancing with the Stars" on ABC and "The Mentalist" on CBS, but it easily beat "The Biggest Loser" on NBC as well as "Privileged" on The CW in overall viewers, but finishing second only to "House" in grabbing the biggest audience hailing from advertisers' darling demographic. Numbers for "Fringe" were up 3 percent from last week, but still lost about 20.5 percent of "House's" audience, which remains one of Fox's top-rated scripted shows. The rating ...

'Fringe' Falls Back To Normal

24 September 2008 7:00 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

It only took a week for "Fringe" to fall back to its pre-"House" lead-in days. The J.J. Abrams series earned a 6.0 rating/9 share, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research, beating only "The Biggest Loser" on NBC and "Privileged" on The CW. "Fringe" was knocked around quite a bit by the series premiere of "The Mentalist" on CBS, which started out with a 9.9/15, according to Zap2it, thanks to a strong lead-in from the season premiere of "NCIS." However, "The Mentalist" lost about 11.6 percent of its lead-in audience. "Fringe" can't snicker too much because nearly 19 percent of the "House" audience abandoned Fox by the time "Fringe" premiered. The ratings for "Fringe" is off nearly 27 percent from its series high last week, but is slightly higher ...

Fringe Makes Solid Second-Week Comeback

18 September 2008 10:37 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Fox's Fringe came roaring back in the ratings for its second episode Tuesday night, attracting 13.4 million viewers, nearly 50 percent more than the 9.1 million who tuned in to the series premiere a week earlier. Although it had won its time period on September 9, Fox had anticipated a much bigger launch, given its extensive marketing campaign and solid reviews by critics. Pulling in more viewers for the second week, analysts observed, was the season premier of House, which preceded it with 14.4 million viewers. Fox said that the audience jump for the second episode was the biggest for an network series since at least 1991.

Jackson Bloodied In Dangerous Prop Mishap

Actor Joshua Jackson was left with a bloody nose after a dangerous stunt on his new U.S. TV show sent him rushing to the emergency room.

The former Dawson's Creek star plays the son of an eccentric scientist in new series, Fringe.

However, his return to the small screen was shortlived when he had to be taken to hospital after a copper wire was shoved up his nose for a scene, hitting a vein and jeopardising his role.

But he's convinced the show will be a smash, telling the National Enquirer, "I can now say that I have literally put my blood into this show."

'Fringe' Audience Soars In Second Week

17 September 2008 4:35 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

"Fringe" may have raised concerns about being an early bomb of the season, but apparently its ratings woes only needed a doctor ... Dr. Gregory House, that is. The second episode of the J.J. Abrams series picked up an 8.2 rating/13 share, according to Fast National ratings from Nielsen Media Research. It lost nearly 7 percent of the audience brought in by the season premiere of "House" on Fox, but it didn't matter. The 8.2 was a 39 percent increase over the series premiere, which was considered anemic at best. It also helped lead Fox to a Tuesday night win. So what was the difference maker between Week One and Week Two of "Fringe"? The obvious would be the "House" lead-in, but another thing that could be considered a boost was the Sunday encore of the premiere episode, which was heavily ...

Seven Minutes from 'The Day The Earth Stood Still'

15 September 2008 11:03 AM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

If you watch the new J.J. Abrams show Fringe on Fox, you got something of a surprise during last night's encore rebroadcast: Seven minutes from The Day the Earth Stood Still, starring Keanu Reeves and Jennifer Connelly.

There hasn't been a remake with this much enmity among moviegoers in a long time. I think the producers and the studio may have underestimated the love audiences have for the 1951 Robert Wise original, because if they would seen this backlash coming, they may have passed.

I, on the other hand, think that even though The Day the Earth Stood Still is a classic, a remake is a good idea, because you can't possibly watch a sci-fi movie made before the dawn of modern special effects and take it seriously. Ten years from now, an 18-year-old stumbling across the original film would think it's terrible. The style of acting has changed dramatically, clearly

Must Watch: Extended The Day the Earth Stood Still Preview

15 September 2008 9:08 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Before the encore presentation of J.J. Abrams' "Fringe" last night on Fox, an extended 7-minute preview for the upcoming remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still aired. I actually watched it on TV before it showed up here and will say again what I thought then - this looks awesome! I know I'm excited for a lot of movies a lot of the time, but being a big sci-fi fan, The Day the Earth Stood Still has now shot to the top of my most anticipated list for the rest of the year, right below Quantum of Solace. This 7-minute extended preview features a lot of the scenes we saw at Comic-Con, including the incredibly intense part in the middle where Keanu Reeves takes over the guy who is interviewing him and escapes. I know I'm not alone in my excitement, so hopefully those who are in agreement

A Behind-the-Scene Visit to 'Fringe' Laboratory Set

11 September 2008 11:39 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

"Fringe" that opens with 9 million viewers on the season premiere on Tuesday, September 9, has opened its basement laboratory for public view. An over five minutes footage has been released via Fox All Access, revealing the set used as the base for Olivia, Peter and Dr. Walter Bishop to do the investigations.

Providing the narration is Jasika Nicole who plays Astrid Farnsworth, the assistant to Olivia. The behind-the-scene footage shows all from the chemical utensils to the replica of cow used for the first episode, plus some clips from the actual show.

The laboratory set in the first episode will look a little bit different in several weeks to come because the pilot was shot in Toronto, in a basement of a church, but later on shooting moved to New York, and the set has to be copied from the original concept.

"Fringe" will enter its second show on Tuesday, September
