Anna Friel 'sang while fan vomited'

6 November 2009 2:06 AM, PST | Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Anna Friel has admitted that she struggled to maintain her composure on stage in Breakfast At Tiffany's as a theatre-goer was sick during her performance. The former Pushing Daisies actress told Smooth Radio that an audience member threw up over the upper balcony, causing six people below to be splattered with vomit. Revealing how the incident happened during a musical number, Friel explained: "I thought it was latecomers who shouldn't have been allowed in - but it turned out someone had vomited from (more) »

Sick Theatregoer Almost Ruins Breakfast At Tiffany's

6 November 2009 12:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Anna Friel almost forgot her lines during a recent performance in West End show Breakfast At Tiffany's - when a sick theatre-goer showered the stalls with vomit.

The Pushing Daisies star is currently appearing as Holly Golightly in the hit stage production of Audrey Hepburn's classic movie.

But one performance was almost ruined after a reveller threw up over the balcony - splattering audience members below.

Friel admits she was angry at first - until she realised what had happened.

She tells U.K. radio station Smooth, "I thought it was late-comers who shouldn't have been allowed in - but it turned out someone had vomited from the balcony over six people and they were being escorted out to be cleaned up.

"I carried on singing but almost lost my way as there was such a noise coming from the seats. I almost lost it but I'm proud I kept my concentration." »

The Redemption of 'Heroes'

2 November 2009 7:29 PM, PST | TVovermind.com | See recent TVovermind.com news »

Call Heroes the fast food of television: even through its very worst moments, it still manages to be greatly entertaining television. This label is most applicable to the second and third volumes (not seasons) of the series, which were mediocre at best, with only a few high points (puppetmaster Eric Doyle, for instance). However, I still tuned in every week — not because it was great television — but because I was entertained. Oh, and because there was always a hope that the show would get better, and that I would be vindicated in my dedication (and be automatically entitled to bragging rights when the show returned to its former glory).

While that's not quite the case yet, I have to say that Heroes is striving to move out of the fast food category of television and more toward the gourmet category. Volume four, "Fugitives," was the best volume of the series since "Genesis, »

My Big Bang theory: The Middle's Brick is another Sheldon

31 October 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Like a stray dog that works his way into your heart, I think I've fallen in love with The Middle. I didn't want to get so attached, because -- quite frankly -- ABC's track record for sticking with quality shows isn't so great. I'm still mourning Pushing Daisies. But The Middle is nothing like Pushing Daisies, nor does it fall into the quirky, clever mode of other shows that ABC has been promulgating for years. Ugly Betty is quirky. Better off Ted is quirky. Dirty Sexy Money was quirky. Quirky's the word.

Men in Black 3 Script in the Works by Tropic Thunder Writer Etan Cohen

29 October 2009 9:18 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

We learned that Columbia was finally moving forward with a third Men in Black movie back in April, but at the time there was no script attached to the project. While there still isn't much to report yet, we have learned that they've tapped the now-hot writer Etan Cohen (Tropic Thunder, Idiocracy) for the screenplay. There's no word yet on Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones' involvement, but I can't imagine they would bring the franchise back without featuring them in some capacity. I'm also hoping that they're able to bring Barry Sonnenfeld back to direct. He's been working on the television end of things recently (we can thank him for Pushing Daisies gloriously candy-colored style), and I'm sure he'd like to get another feature under his belt to distance himself from the Robin Williams fiasco Rv. The studio is mum on what MiB3 may actually be about, but »

Friel 'fine about Tiffany's nude scenes'

28 October 2009 1:58 PM, PDT | Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news »

Anna Friel has declared that she has no doubts about appearing naked on stage for her latest role. The former Pushing Daisies star features nude in the theatre version of 1961 movie Breakfast At Tiffany's in London's West End. Her part as lead Holly Golightly has reportedly caused a stir since the production opened. Producers issued a ban on audience members taking photos of the actress disrobed. Friel Enjoys Nude Scenes

28 October 2009 9:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Anna Friel has no qualms about appearing naked onstage for her latest role - she loves stripping off.

The former Pushing Daisies star disrobes for a scene in the theatre version of 1961 movie Breakfast At Tiffany's in London's West End.

Her racy role as Holly Golightly has caused a stir in the U.K., with show bosses issuing a ban on audience members taking photos of the star nude.

But Friel admits she is not shy about peeling off her clothes - and would happily conduct press interviews naked.

She tells British TV host Paul O'Grady, "At first I was (nervous). There was a whole debate about when we actually rehearse the nakedness for the first time. It was in a rehearsal room which was very stark and cold and under fluorescent lights.

"I have never really had a problem with nakedness. I could sit here completely naked and be interviewed and not care. But I won't be doing that, don't worry!

"It's so brief and it's not gratuitous, it's not salacious. It's about this guy who sees a naked woman for the very first time. It teaches him to be a bit more open about it and not so stuffy. We've all got them - they just look different!" »

Friel Got To Grips With Guitar For West End Stage

28 October 2009 5:16 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Actress Anna Friel has a flair for music - she learned how to play the guitar in just five weeks.

The former Pushing Daisies star is currently impressing theatregoers in London's West End with her turn as Holly Golightly in the stage version of Audrey Hepburn's 1961 classic Breakfast At Tiffany's.

The role requires her to strum a guitar on-stage - and talented Friel easily got to grips with the instrument.

She says, "I had to learn (guitar) for this. We did five weeks rehearsals, I practised every day. My dad's a great guitarist, and my brother, so I've got that in my blood I think." »

Friel's Backstage Ghost Hunt

28 October 2009 1:16 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Anna Friel is constantly on the look-out for ghosts while she's on-stage in London following rumours of a supernatural presence at the theatre where she is working.

The former Pushing Daisies star is currently performing in a stage version of Audrey Hepburn's 1961 classic Breakfast At Tiffany's and reports of a ghoul at the venue have left the actress feeling spooked.

Stories suggested the West End production had tempted the ghosts of Hepburn and the novel's author Truman Capote to London's Royal Haymarket Theatre.

Despite insisting the rumours are false, Friel confesses she can't help looking out for supernatural encounters backstage - especially after actor Patrick Stewart spotted a spook while performing in Waiting for Godot at the same venue.

She says, "Everyone keeps talking about this ghost. Supposedly I think that Capote is in the corner or Audrey Hepburn is there watching, but I've never seen her. Patrick Stewart, who was in Godot beforehand, said he saw it on-stage and it came out of a box. I keep looking now!"

But the Pushing Daisies star insists she has opened her mind to the spiritual world - because of ghostly goings-on in her dressing room.

She adds, "The music in my room has gone up a few times but I just put it down to an electrical glitch." »

ABC Picks Up ‘Modern Family’ and ‘Cougar Town’

13 October 2009 10:15 AM, PDT | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

The last few years of television have shown us that the ratings darlings were either reality/competition shows, vast plots and casts where a suspension of belief were necessary, or the use of a microscope was employed… every week. Don’t call it a comeback, but times are a-changin’.

According to Variety, ABC has given full-season orders to Modern Family and Cougar Town, both sitcoms – “situation comedies” in case you’ve forgotten – revolving around normal, every-day characters and families dipped in abnormal circumstances. Even The Middle has scored enough viewership to convince the network to re-up and fortify its Wednesday comedy block, which has so far outperformed the same time slot from last year when the now-canceled Pushing Daisies and relocated Private Practice used to reside.

Is this a sign that sitcoms will once again return to prominence and dominate the airwaves? Possibly, however a case can be made for »

Easy as ABC

ABC picked up full seasons of its comedies Cougar Town, Modern Family, and The Middle late yesterday, just on the heels of CBS's pickup of NCIS: Los Angeles and The Good Wife. Can you handle ABC's love of the middle class? The possibilities for cross-promotion are endless. Patricia Heaton can guest-star on Modern Family and get into a talk-to-the-hand-ish fight with Sofia Vergara, all while Courteney Cox gives a hilarious mockumentary confessional about how everyone needs a drink. Fall Frights: Carrie (DVD Review)

5 October 2009 1:23 PM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

In the spirit of Halloween '09, we're breaking out reviews (some new, some old) of some Fall Frights you may want to work into your monthly viewing.

Carrie is the revenge tale of a high school girl who was picked on one too many times. Carrie White just wanted to be herself and have wonderful fun with her date at the prom. Instead she was forced to use her telekinetic powers to hurt those who were bullying her.

The screenplay by Lawrence D. Cohen is an impressive adaptation of the first novel by Stephen King. The adaptation was by no means an easy feat for the screenwriter. Lawrence D. Cohen had to construct a visual narrative from a novel consisting of police reports, diary and letter entries. The reader relates to Carrie White through other character’s points of view but never the character herself.

Q: I´ve been reading the Kathy Griffin book and while it was much less fun than I was hoping for, there was something that really annoyed me -- besides the fact that in her world "the gays" is a synonym for hair dresser or shopping buddy. Kinda makes me wish she´d actually let me at her hair to change that attitude. Anyway, in the book she says that Andy Dick got punched in the face by Wesley Snipes for using (and I quote) "the n-word" in a club. Later there is another Dick story about one of his stand-up appearances where he called the audience repeatedly (and I quote again) "faggots.” So why isn´t it "the n-word" and "the f-word" Or "nigger" and "faggot"? -- Thomas, »

The Week in Film: "Whip It" good, "Lying" bad and cool new trailers

2 October 2009 8:08 AM, PDT | AfterElton.com | See recent AfterElton.com news »

Reading about the health care reform battle has gotten depressing — except for that awesome Florida congressman who basically told the Republicans to cram it with walnuts when they demanded he apologize for saying the crux of the Gop health plan was "die quickly" — so let’s talk about movies for a bit.

Drew Barrymore makes a crowd-pleasing debut as a director with Whip It, an entertaining saga about a mousy teen (Juno’s Ellen Page) in small-town Texas who blossoms when she lies about her age and joins an Austin roller derby team.

In a year that's given us such awful movies like The Ugly Truth and All About Steve, finally here’s a chick flick that doesn’t seem to hate chicks.

The socko supporting cast includes Barrymore, Kristen Wiig, Juliette Lewis, Alia Sawkat (Arrested Development), Zoë Bell, Eve and Oscar-winner Marcia Gay Harden.

Kristin Chenoweth gleeful about Glee...and would love to return

2 October 2009 7:00 AM, PDT | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Did you see Kristin Chenoweth on Glee the other night? Fully recovered from her migraine the night that she won the Emmy for Pushing Daisies, the prolific Kristin Chenoweth talked about the appearance on Glee -- including an interview with Nick the other day -- and she was enthusiastic about it.

She said it was a blast playing a character as wild as April Rhodes. She liked it so much, Kristin would like to make Glee a permanent thing. Or at least be asked back for future guest appearances.

She may get her wish. Kristin told TV Guide, "Ryan Murphy, the creator and genius behind Glee, has indicated that he'd love for April to come back some time. However, they are all working hard to figure out stories all the time. It'd be great for it to make sense for her to come back."Continue reading Kristin Chenoweth gleeful about Glee. »
