Four New 'Kick-Ass' Character Posters

6 November 2009 6:12 AM, PST | GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news »

After footage from the film debuted at Comic-Con, Kick-Ass immediately became one of next year's most anticipated fanboy movies. There was a bidding war to secure the rights for the young non-superheroes superhero movie, which Lionsgate eventually won. The irony is the subject matter and the tone kept all the studios away from Mark Millar's comic book title before director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Layer Cake) financed the project himself.

I know, I know: It's hard to believe the studios all missed what looks like a guaranteed crowd pleaser in favor of stuff like G.I. Joe. I'm sure they've all learned their lesson. Kick-Ass comes out on April 16th, just enough time to make a bunch of money just before the summer movie season. Good planning, I think.

IGN has four new character posters (mind the watermark) from Kick-Ass, which means we're probably not far away from the official trailer. »

Kick-Ass New Character Posters for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass!

5 November 2009 7:17 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Freakin' sweet! IGN has debuted the first four character posters for Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass tonight. By now everyone has probably heard about this (or seen the leaked Comic-Con footage), so I don't think it needs an elaborate introduction. Kick-Ass is the adaptation of Mark Millar's awesome comic series about a kid who decides to dress up and be a superhero. While it could've been a goofy, Hollywood spoof, Vaughn went all out to make sure it was a bloody, brutal, violent adaptation true to his own pure vision. And that's already starting to show even in the marketing, as these posters definitely look awesome. Check 'em out! Kick-Ass is both written and directed by British filmmaker Matthew Vaughn, of Layer Cake and Stardust previously. The screenplay was co-written by Vaughn and his writing partner Jane Goldman, of Stardust as well. The story is an adaptation of Mark Millar »

Kick-Ass posters

5 November 2009 2:42 PM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

It's certainly looking like Kick-ass was a gamble that will pay off. Director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Layer Cake) independently financed the movie, based on the high-concept shock book by Wanted comic writer Mark Millar. Massive fan response at Comic Con then led to a studio bidding war, and now Lionsgate has the movie coming out in April (with enough confidence to bump Sly's The Expendables from that date into August). The ultraviolent story revolves around a geeky teen who randomly... »

3D Version of The Woman in Black Coming from Hammer!

4 November 2009 5:59 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

Now this is the best news I've heard from Afm all day! Andrew has reported in that Hammer Films, which is having a pretty amazing resurgence already what with The Resident and Let Me In in post-production and currently filming, respectively, is about to tackle one of the best ghost stories ever written, The Woman in Black. And that's not all -- it's going to be in 3D!

Jane Goldman, who is best known for co-writing the big screen adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Stardust, will be penning the script based on Susan Hill's 1983 novel about a menacing spectre that haunts a small English town. It has had numerous stage adaptations and was turned into a British TV movie in 1989 by Nigel Kneale, creator of the Quatermass science-fiction serials, but this will be its first theatrical version.

The question looms as to how well the tale will take to a 3D treatment, »

Five Cool Movies For Spring 2010

23 October 2009 3:12 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It’s a slow week for movie releases, with Fantastic Mr. Fox the only release of note in the UK, along with Cirque Du Freak. Most of the remaining big films this year are due out in November and December.

So, with the big winter films already hyped to the max, and with Iron Man 2, Clash of the Titans and Robin Hood being the highly anticipated movies this Spring, I thought i’d take a look at some Spring movies that maybe aren’t getting the attention they deserve – The Losers, Green Zone, A Couple of Dicks, Machete and Kick-Ass. Note, this is a list of the films i’m personally looking forward to, so you won’t necessarily agree with me…

The Losers

When is it? – 9th April.

Where is it? – Currently filming in Puerto Rico

Who is it? – Directed by Sylvain White, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Chris Evans, »

10 Most Underrated Young Actors

12 October 2009 7:54 PM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

Cinema is filled with multi-talented young actors who bring to life all types of characters. Sometimes, a role is given to the wrong guy - just because he has the looks (pin-up pretty, looks awesome wearing trunks) and the connection (a powerful talent agent at his side). But when the role is given to the right guy - moviegoers get to witness something unique, memorable and powerful, even magical. Anyway, even the 'right guy' needs an agent, of course...

- - -

- - - Underrated versus Overrated: If you've watched Jumper, then you'll notice the difference between Jamie Bell and Hayden Christensen - Bell has undeniable screen presence, I can't say the same with Hayden. It could have been different if Tom Sturridge was retained to play Hayden's part. Anyway, who am I to argue? Christensen has more box office appeal than the relatively unknown Sturridge, but acting-wise?

Anderson, Cox & Sutherland Sign On For ‘Moby Dick’

29 September 2009 8:00 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The $25 million made-for-tv adaptation of Herman Melville’s iconic tale, Moby Dick, has added Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Charlie Cox (Stardust) and Donald Sutherland (It’s Donald Sutherland) to their already talented cast. As we’ve previously reported, William Hurt and Ethan Hawke have already signed on to star as the obsessive Captain Ahab (Hurt) and his unruly first officer, Starbuck (Hawke).

With Moby Dick being the most expensive production to date for Tele Munchen Group (Tmg), they’re leaving nothing to chance. Nigel Williams has penned the script with Mike Barker directing. Barker is best known for directing the critically acclaimed, Sea Wolf, while Williams famously wrote the script for the award-winning 2005 miniseries, Elizabeth I. Both Sea Wolf and Elizabeth I are Tmg productions.

Being a fan of the HBO series, Elizabeth I, and I’m interested in seeing what Williams will do with Melville’s novel. While I »

Sequel to Be Teased in 'Kick-Ass'

16 September 2009 7:32 PM, PDT | Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news »

It's a bit early to talk about any sequel to "Kick-Ass" since the movie won't be heading to theaters until 2010, but graphic novel creator Mark Millar has hyped up premise of a follow-up. Talking to MTV News, the 39-year-old suggested that the movie version will follow similar path to the comic book series.

"There's a basic plot," the comic book writer teased. "The series ends on a teaser for the next one, and the movie ends on that teaser, too." Elaborating more on his sequel remark, he promised, "We don't want to sound too cocky, but we know this is good. It didn't cost that much money to make. There will definitely be another one."

Months earlier, Millar has spilled the beans that "Kick-Ass 2" is being planned and is already in the works. At the time, he told Sci Fi Wire, "Kick-Ass 2 is already being plotted out." He further added »

Fans Rejoice: Neil Gaiman's Short Film is Official

Neil Gaiman, the darling of comic book and fantasy fans everywhere, has been alluding to a short film project he's been working on on Twitter. Apparently, his fans aren't the only ones who can't resist snapping up his every project, because Variety is reporting the British TV channel has already picked up the short film as part of a "12 Days of Christmas" series.

Gaiman, who is very open to fan interaction and uses Twitter both effectively and charmingly, Tweeted in August, "Oh good. I have my star, who was my first (and only) choice. I have a costume designer. We agree about things. This is fun."

The dapper Bill Nighy is the star of Gaiman's short silent film which is "a love story involving two statues and Christmas shoppers." We can, no doubt, expect music from Gaiman's muse and collaborator Amanda Palmer for the soundtrack. it's so cool that he »

Trailer For The Descent: Part 2

5 September 2009 2:02 AM, PDT | FilmShaft.com | See recent FilmShaft.com news »

Here at FilmShaft we love our trailers, hell we even have an entire section dedicated to them – little slices of cinematic thrills that should (hopefully) allude to the greatness of the whole. So naturally when we were sent the trailer for The Descent: Part 2 how could we resist?

The original you’ll remember, had people going crazy. An original plot in the horror genre is not something we see very often (more on that in a later article) so when audiences were plunged into the damp, claustrophobic caves of 2005’s The Descent, their fear was almost tangible.

Now with filmmakers are set to drag us back into the subterranean horror with The Descent: Part 2 the question is – are there any more surprises left?

Shauna Macdonald (Mutant Chronicles, The Descent) returns as Sarah, continuing the story of 2005’s hugely successful horror thriller The Descent, in which a group of »

UK Trailer for The Descent: Part 2

4 September 2009 9:10 AM, PDT | Fangoria | See recent Fangoria news »

Warner Bros. Pictures UK just sent over the latest trailer for Path Productions' sequel to Neil Marshall's 2005 film, The Descent (which we last reported on here).

Shauna Macdonald (Mutant Chronicles) returns as Sarah, continuing the story of the original film, in which a group of young women disappear during a caving trip in the Appalachian Mountains.

Check out the trailer below!

Emerging from the cave system alone, distraught and covered in the blood of her missing companions, Sarah is incoherent and half-wild with fear. Sceptical about her account of events and convinced Sarah's psychosis hides far darker secrets, Sheriff Vaines (Gavan O'Herlihy) doesn't waste time. Along with his partner Rios (Krysten Cummings), and their cave rescue team Dan (Douglas Hodge), Greg (Joshua Dallas), and Cath (Anna Skellern), Vaines forces Sarah back into the caves to help the rescuers find her friends.

Alongside Macdonald, The Descent Part 2 also features Natalie Mendoza »

tMF Talkback: Anatomy of a Good Actor - The 'case' between Orlando Bloom, Ben Barnes and Johnny Depp

4 September 2009 8:01 AM, PDT | The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news »

What constitute good acting? What makes a good actor? Are there certain steps one must follow in order to become an actor or is it a gift or a natural talent and requires no formal training? These are the questions we'll try to answer - and before we begin, let me just say, I have been patiently waiting for an 'opportunity' like this, and I would like to thank one tMF viewer for the vigorous and insightful comments on 'good acting' and the case between Ben Barnes, Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp.
