  • Continuity: Whenever Lamia appears to her sisters in the mirror, she is always the exact same physically as she is when she calls them. In the middle of the movie she appears in the mirror as a young woman exactly as she was when she first set off. However, when she travels to the mirror, she is old. In all other instances of her contacting the sisters, the mirror shows her as aging or old.

  • Incorrectly regarded as goofs: In one of the scenes where Mormo and Empusa are talking to Lamia in a mirror (and telling her that the star has returned to Earth and is also being pursued by a prince) the scene is shot from above. It is clear, however, that Mormo's words are not synched with the sound. In one shot she is saying the same thing but out of synch. In another, the sound of her speaking is not related in any way to what she's saying. Though not actually stated much in the film, the reflection of the witches in the book is always a reflection of their younger selves.

  • Continuity: When Tristan and Yvaine are taken captive by the pirates, the Snowbud Tristan was wearing is missing. A few scenes later, we see Tristan's clothes being thrown out of the flying boat. However, somehow this flower shows back up on Tristan's new clothing later in the film.

  • Revealing mistakes: When Lamia was laughing and there was a close up shot of her mouth. All her teeth were dirty but the back few teeth on each side were stark white

  • Revealing mistakes: Near the beginning of the movie, there is a wide, rotating shot from above of Tristan and Yvaine walking on a road. Near the end of the shot, you can clearly see grass being blown by the wind from the helicopter that shot this shot.

  • Continuity: When Victoria goes to the shop where Tristan works, as she is walking in her hair bow is to the left. In the next shot her bow is centered. Then it goes back to being on the left side again.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: In the montage where Yvaine and Tristan are learning different talents, there is a piano being played. The audio plays major thirds, but the picture shows whole tones being played on the keys.

  • Continuity: During the scene in which Tristan and Victoria are drinking champagne at their picnic, the glass of champagne switches back and forth from Victoria's left to right hand when the camera angle changes.

  • Continuity: When Septimus is holding the sword to Bernard's face: The sword goes from in front of Bernard's ear to behind his ear every time the camera angle changes.

  • Continuity: When Tristan and Victoria are sipping champagne, Victoria's glass changes from empty to full to empty and just as Tristan asks her if she wants a refill, it's half full again.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): Toward the end of the movie, Lamia uses a steel on the edge of her glass knife (presumably to sharpen it). Steels are only used to correct a curled edge on a regular knife. A glass or crystal knife's edge cannot curl, so a steel would not help and might actually damage the edge.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: In the scene were the Bishop is talking to Primus about leaving quickly to find the stone before his brothers, during the camera pan from the ceiling to the actors the audio of the Bishop doesn't match his lip movements, but in the close up shot everything realigns.

  • Revealing mistakes: In the scene where Yvaine and Captain Shakespeare are dancing, Robert De Niro's hearing aid can be seen in his ear.

  • Continuity: After realizing Yvaine can't cross the wall we see Tristan running down the street (the shot is from the side). After some shots of other characters we see Tristan running down the street again (the shot is from in front). However, the part of the street we see him running down initially is a part we have already seen him running down.

  • Continuity: After Yvaine is captured and Tristan reaches Ditchwater Sal's carriage, a saddle appears on the horse that was pulling it.

  • Continuity: When Una steals the carriage to prevent Yvaine from crossing the wall, she is wearing her plain blue dress. But during the pursuit, shots of her (or the stunt person) driving the carriage show her wearing a protective black vest over the dress. The vest disappears when she reaches Yvaine.

  • Crew or equipment visible: After realizing Yvaine can't cross the wall we see Tristan running down the street. One shot is of him from the front, and the dust and a tyre track (presumably from the camera rig he is chasing) is briefly visible.

  • Anachronisms: In the scene with the young scientist at the beginning of the film we see a type-written letter. The narrator says that this is "150 years ago". Practical typewriters did not go on sale until around 1870.

  • Continuity: When Dunstan tries to cut Una's chain, he cuts it with his right hand and it reattaches in his right hand. However, in the next shot, he's holding the whole chain in his left hand. (Also, as he cuts, he watches the left hand, not the right one.)

  • Continuity: When Ditchwater Sal cuts the rabbit into "heads" and "tails", the rabbit is clearly in three pieces - with the center small piece cut on both sides (not simply broken off one or the other half. It had obviously been cut in a previous take.

  • Continuity: When Tristan asks Yvaine if what she said about loving him was true, she becomes embarrassed and covers her mouth and nose with her hands. The next shot changes angles, and her hands are covering her entire face.

  • Audio/visual unsynchronized: When Bernard has been turned into a girl and offers Tristan a glass of wine, he accepts and asks her name. When Bernard speaks his name his voice was dubbed much deeper than the actors actual voice to enhance the shock/humor of the situation.

  • Continuity: In the scene in which Septimus holds a knife to Bernard, the knife is on Bernard's cheek in the forward shot and behind his ear in the reverse shot.

  • Revealing mistakes: Every time a carriage stops suddenly, the wheels lock and skid to a stop as if they have brakes.

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): At the inn in the market town near the wall, when Tristan asks Yvaine whether she meant what she said in the caravan, she incorrectly proclaims that he was a mouse. The small creature appears to be a honey glider or sugar glider, not a mouse.

>>> WARNING: Here Be Spoilers <<<

Goofs below here contain information that may give away important plot points. You may not want to read any further if you've not already seen this title.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: In the final fight between Tristan and Lamia, when Lamia is thrown towards the fountain where she will reach for the puppet to control Septimus' corpse, she pulls herself up on the border of the fountain with her right hand - the hand's skin and complexion are young and fresh despite her overall aged and tattered appearance.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: When Lamia breaks Septimus' arm he drops his sword and dies about 8 feet away from that point. As Tristan passes him in a later scene the sword is shown about 1 foot from his outstretched hand. Finally, when Lamia removes the voodoo doll from the water the sword is lying directly in his hand for him to grab.

  • Continuity: SPOILER: Septimus has no tattoo on his hand when he pushes Secundus from the tower. His right hand has a large 7 tattoo when he is with Tristan outside the Witches castle.
