DWTS originated out of England made it's way throughout Europe and down under, assuming different titles. BBC, responsible for the American version, entitled the British version 'Strictly Come Dancing' which spawned sequels 'Strictly Come Dancing : It Takes Too' and 'Strictly Ice Dancing'. Of course, there are the obligatory wannabe knock-offs (Fox's Idol-ized 'So You Think You Can Dance') but make no mistake, this show offers real entertainment value about an art form that's often overlooked and seen as outdated.

Some people would like to write this off as another trashy reality show, but it's definitely not. It's a classy, professional, dance competition. It's refreshing to watch a cultured show and because it's in the summer, younger audiences are tuning in. It's started a craze and it's it's boosted careers for the show's celebrities. It's a hot item on the Yahoo Search and Buzz Log, for a good reason. Don't miss the international phenomenon of...Dancing With The Stars.

I started watching Dancing With the Stars in the middle of the fourth season, and I absolutely loved it. At first, I wanted Billy Ray Cyrus to win, even if he was a bad dancer, because he is one of my favorite country singers, and not only because he was on Hannah Montana, although that is how I knew he was a country singer. But after Billy Ray Cyrus lost, I wanted Apollo to win, because he was a good dancer and he was cute. I was really happy when he did win. I like this show because dancing is my favorite sport, and I don't like how people don't think it is a sport. Dancing is a sport! Dancing With the Stars was very suspenseful during the results. And, the dancing was fun to watch because each pair had a completely different idea to choreograph it. Dancing with the Stars is one of my favorite television shows, and I am definitely going to watch it every night it is on, because it is great!

Rocky in Dancing Shoes, 6 July 2005

The finale, broadcast 6 July 2005, proved that even the clumsiest soap opera star can win a ballroom dance competition. After coming in dead last in the series opener, underdog and diminutive actress Kelly Monaco walks, or better yet, dances away with the championship. With a combination of dogged determination and skimpy outfits, Kelly and her partner Alec Mazo narrowly edge out the favorite John O'Hurley.

Audience members may have wondered about the credentials of the distinguished panel of judges. Some found it difficult to keep a straight face knowing the lone female judge Carrie Ann Inaba counts her role as Fook Yu in Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002) as a film credit. Perhaps the ballroom dancing scene didn't appear in the final cut.

Regardless, the competition was light-hearted fun, something to kill the time while we all wait for our favorite TV shows to come back in the fall.

DWTS Seems To Be Fixed, 20 May 2008

Kristy Yamaguchi was slated to win DWTS almost before it got underway. She's a well seasoned PROFESSIONAL! "Dancing" on ice is HARD. A dance floor is much easier to perform on, so of course she out-shined all of the other poor contestants. It doesn't really seem fair. The contestants should be fairly chosen based on a level playing field. It appears that this year's show was BIASED. I know plenty of viewers that won't watch next year! Read some blogs. You'll see how upset and how the audiences feel. Secondly, it is very disappointing that the results are revealed on the internet before we on the West Coast have even seen the show! I am not one to complain but this was not right.

This is not as good as something like American Idol, still, though, I have no trouble at all watching this. This is not the type of show in which you would give anything for not to watch this. This is average, but watchable. This is a typical reality show that has some unique twists, is you can call them twists, and some good dancers. The major problem that I have is the music. The always pick horrible and cheesy music. When I mean always, they always pick bad music. They rarely pick some decent better yet good music.

Here is the basis of this reality show. Several famous celebrities pair up as partners to become dancers. They practice. Pratice makes perfect, right. Well, not for all of the celebrities. They then perform live in front of thousands of people and three judges. When they are done they are criticized by the judges. They are scored. The next day or the next week one celebrity couple is eliminated. That happens every single week until one celebrity couple wins Dancing With The Stars.

Overall, this is a fun but average reality elimination show. Tom Bergeron does a good job hosting. The judges are good, well, except for Bruno. Bruno is creepy. If you watch this show I think you will find out what I mean when I say. One thing that really gets to me is Cheryl. She is constantly a contestant and whenever she is one of the celebrities she always wins. She won twice in a row. Anyway, this is a typical reality show that is okay and you can watch it.

6/10

Recommended Titles: American Idol.

Correction, 27 March 2007

This is just correcting a mistake that was made:

Im not sure about the DWTS but the title 'Stictly Ice Dancing' was/is not a BBC program. The correct title is 'Dancing On Ice' and this is shown and made by the British channel ITV who have nothing to do with the BBC. I just wanted to point this out.

Judges Influence, 5 October 2006

It is happening again as it did last year where the judges give high praise and marks several who are less talented than others. Last year we had P-Diddy(might be wring name),Geaorge Hamilton, and Jerry Rice and other more talented dancers got bounced early. Now this year we have Jerry Springer who stands there and lets his partner do the work and he stays and Vivaca Fox gets booted. I hear the judges are shocked but they are responsible for telling the audience how good he's doing. And the dramatic showing of him going over and hugging his daughter was nothing more "on with the show". Emmet Smith who I like and is doing as good a job as Jerry Rice did last year still doesn't have the moves of some of the other stars. I realize that some of the stars have tremendous star support which makes is all the more critical that the judges do their jobs properly. If the star does a poor job than give them the 2, 3, and 4's they deserve. 2006 review

Reflections on Dancing With the Stars, 3 October 2006
6/10
Author: sred_head from United States

The show is intriguing mainly because of the obvious increased performance level of each star with each show. My confusion is why "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera was the music that Sara Evans was forced to dance to when doing a Pasa Doble. And why Viveca A. Fox had to display Latin passion to a Bon Jovi song, obviously from the rock genre, also to dance a Pasa Doble.

I was curious then to see that Mario Lopez, also dancing a Pasa Doble had the surprising good fortune to be able to dance this number with the appropriate music.

Is there someone out there who can answer my questions?

November 13 2007 Show, 14 November 2007
Author: wurban805 from United States

I was very disappointed in the results of this weeks show. I'm afraid the show is becoming nothing more than a popularity contest. To me the two contestants that should have been booted off are Marie or Jenny. They are both very good but do not come up to the excellence of Helio and Mel B. In my opinion I think Marie will win as she has the whole Morman church voting for her all over the country. This winning by popularity has to be changed. If they can't come up with a better way of voting than it should be left up to the judges on the show. When a guy like Cameron Mathieson who absolutely did not know how to dance at all and has become a great dancer gets booted off, before Jenny or Marie there is something rotten in Denmark as they say.

Cannot watch until Mr. P is voted off., 26 January 2006
Author: jmott1750 from United States

Mr. P has no talent and despite the shows scoring policy the fact that he still remains a contestant is outrageous. It goes without saying that he has a strong following and I imagine that following thinks they are entitled to vote numerous times for him. However, the intention of the voting is to find the most talented in the group. At least that is my understanding. While I enjoyed the first one or two shows, last week I found myself having a lot of difficulty with that fact that Mr. P was not voted off. I felt I needed to express that feeling to those responsible for the show in hopes that they will realize they need to be very careful when setting guidelines for these reality programs.
