8 October 2008 11:12 AM, PDT | From icelebz.com | See recent iCelebz news

Funny man Steve Carell has become the "it" guy for starring in comedy movies. His film "Get Smart" grossed 0 million domestically and 0 million worldwide for Warner Bros.

Variety is reporting that Warner Bros. has inked a three-year first look deal with Carell, which will allow the actor to not only star in WB films, but also produce movies that he won't be starring in.

"My idea was to partner with friends of mine, people I trusted, with whom I share a certain sensibility," Carell told Daily Variety. "I have some ideas for films, but I've gotten to know so many people who are funny, talented and fertile with ideas that I'm confident this very strong base of friendships will lead to projects."

Carell is currently shooting the fifth season of "The Office." He will also star in a movie with "it" girl Tina Fey. They will play a married couple

Carell Gets New Deal at WB, Possible 'Get Smart' Sequel

7 October 2008 3:59 PM, PDT | From GetTheBigPicture.net | See recent Get The Big Picture news

Detailing a new first-look deal for the comedian at Warner Bros., Variety also announced today that Steve Carell is in line for a sequel to this summer's action comedy Get Smart. The news isn't terribly surprising, although in light of the fact that the studio mentioned it wasn't thrilled with the film's performance, it does raise an eyebrow.

As for the rest of the story, Carell will set up Carousel Productions at Warner Bros. with Vance DeGeneres and Charlie Hartsock running the day-to-day operations. Carell acknowledges that finding vehicles for himself to star in is the primary concern, but notes, "I'm also looking for films I can produce that aren't right for me as an actor."

There was no indication in the article about what other actors from Get Smart would be returning, if any. I'll go ahead and plant my flag in the title Get Smarter.

'Lethal Weapon 5', 'Tron 2', 'Get Smart 2', 'Dracula 2' and Depp's $56 Million

7 October 2008 3:45 PM, PDT | From Rope Of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news

(clockwise from top left) Wolfman banner, Netflix, Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow, Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, Kick-Ass set pics, Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, Unbreakable, Fake Michael Bay cease and desist letter I am surprised at how intrigued fanboy sites are at the idea of a Lethal Weapon 5, especially with word that Columbus Short (who?) is up for the role as Murtaugh's son as it will most likely skew younger. Can they get Mel and Danny to sign on for this? Paul Andrew Williams (The Cottage) is rumored to be up for the job of directing the far from needed 28 Months Later. This has already been proven false. Some awful pictures of Wolfman banners are online. Netflix failed to meet its subscriber growth projections for the third quarter. It also scaled back its estimates for the end of the year. However, I still recommend everyone buy the Netflix Roku player.

Get Smart 2 Possible, Needs Witty Title

7 October 2008 1:47 PM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

Following the surprising success of this summer’s Get Smart, Warner Bros. is developing a sequel to the film and has signed a three-year first-look deal with its star, Steve Carell. I would assume that the movie wouldn’t move forward without some sort of similar agreement with the most gorgeous Anne Hathaway.

I actually thought that Get Smart was quite funny and at least a few people must have agreed as it went on to earn $224 million worldwide at the box office.

That’s all the news there is on this, so we need something to flesh out this little story… Let’s help Warner Bros. out shall we?

They’ll be needing a title for the sequel, so our Screen Rant staff has come up with the following list of fantabulously funny title possibilities for the Get Smart sequel:

'Get Smart' Sequel on the Way, Along with More Steve Carell Goodness

7 October 2008 9:02 AM, PDT | From Cinematical.com | See recent Cinematical news

This summer's Get Smart reboot, with Steve Carell as Maxwell, was far from brilliant, but sweet Jebus, Carell is funny. His improvised dance with a bewildered-but-willing overweight partygoer is one of this year's comic highlights -- a perfect blend of good-natured mockery and non sequitur. So the official announcement of the inevitable sequel strikes me as a good thing. I doubt they'll ever come up with any sort of finely tuned masterwork, but I figure it's guaranteed to have a bunch of great moments. Big budget comedies are often so dire that "uneven with flashes of inspiration" is music to my ears.

Even better, the success of Get Smart has earned Carell a three-year deal with Warner Bros., giving him a chance to develop both starring vehicles and projects for others. It's good to see the right people take off like this, y'know? On the other hand, it's kind of

‘Get Smart’ to get sequel

7 October 2008 8:40 AM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Do you miss Maxwell Smart? In case you do, here’s some good news for you: Warner Bros. is working on a potential sequel to Peter Segal’s action comedy “Get Smart,” according to Variety.

Although it has not been officially announced yet, Steve Carell is expected to return as the clumsy spy, who successfully battled the forces of Kaos in this summer’s hit blockbuster.

Get Smart” pulled in $130 million domestically and $230 million worldwide, which is obviously reason enough for the studio to launch into the production of a follow-up.

This announcement was made in conjunction with a three-year first-look deal Carell sealed with Warner. The agreement allows “The Office” star to produce several projects for the studio.

"I'm also looking for films I can produce that aren't right for me as an actor,” he told Variety.

Carell is currently working on the latest season of TV’s “The Office.

Steve Carell has signed a three-year first-look deal with Warner Bros. that will see him set up shop on the WB lot with his production company Carousel Productions, which former Daily Show colleague Vance DeGegeneres and Charlie Hartstock will run. Interestingly enough, WB is also looking to get Carell back for a Get Smart sequel but not as part of the first-look deal. WB clearly loves them some Carell and understandably so. 'Get Smart' Sequel Planned

7 October 2008 1:51 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

"Get Smart" is most likely to get a sequel treatment. In a recent report made by Variety about the three-year first-look deal between Steve Carell and Warner Bros. Pictures, it is unraveled that the studio are planning to move forward with a follow-up movie to the Peter Segal's spy parody flick.

Words are Steve Carell will be reprising his role as the compulsively efficient analyst-turned-control spy agent, Maxwell Smart in "Get Smart 2". It should be noticed though Carell has signed a three-year deal with the production company, the sequel is not a part of the overall agreement. Moreover, no word on the possible return of Anne Hathaway as Agent 99.

Released on June 20, "Get Smart" debuted atop the box office reigning over its toughest competitor "The Love Guru". Adapted from Mel Brooks and Buck Henry's 1960s spy parody television series of the same name, the flick went on to

Maxwell Smart Will Be Back - Get Smart 2 Gets a Greenlight!

6 October 2008 11:02 PM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Although it only made a solid $130 million at the box office this summer, Get Smart is being turned into a franchise and being given a much needed sequel. Warner Brothers has signed an exclusive three-year first-look deal with Steve Carell to act and even produce projects that come his way. While this Get Smart sequel isn't part of the deal, the same announcement today on Variety included a mention that "the studio is mobilizing a sequel for Carell to return as Maxwell Smart." Considering Maxwell Smart is a comic copy of James Bond, this was destined to become a franchise anyway just like that rather successful series. At the time, I didn't think the response to Get Smart was big enough to warrant a sequel. However, Pete Segal's enthusiasm and Steve Carell's performance were enough to convince me that maybe this could become a great series. I'll be looking

Steve Carell Is The New Adam Sandler

6 October 2008 9:03 PM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

After the $230 million success of Get Smart this past summer, Steve Carell can now officially do whatever he wants. As it turns out, what he wants is to be Adam Sandler. Variety says Steve has formed a production company called Carousel Prods and signed a 3 year first look deal with Warner Brothers. How will he use it? To make movies with his buddies. Carell says, "My idea was to partner with friends of mine, people I trusted, with whom I share a certain sensibility... have some ideas for films, but I've gotten to know so many people who are funny, talented and fertile with ideas that I'm confident this very strong base of friendships will lead to projects." This is exactly how every Adam Sandler movie got made. Sandler makes movies with his buddies, and the result has been big money for Sandler... and an undeserved career for Rob Schneider.

The Get Smart star confesses that she once attempted to give her skin a golden glow - but that was her first and last experience with the beauty treatment.

She says, "I did try it once and it looked good. But I'm so pale that when it started to fade it looked like I had leprosy. Now I just embrace the pale look."

Hathaway Ready to Return as 99

23 September 2008 2:07 PM, PDT | From Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news

“I would love to do a second one,” Anne Hathaway told MTV about a sequel to this summer’s Get Smart. “But I haven’t heard if we’re going to. I hope we get to. I really loved playing Agent 99, it would be fun to do all the training again, and hanging out with all those boys was so much fun.”

The film got so-so reviews but did $129,472,725 worth of domestic box office which was better than expected and was one of the better performing comedies.  A DVD is expected out by Christmas but no date has been released by Warner Home Video.

“There are all sorts [of possibilities],” Hathaway noted about a follow-up. “I’d like her to get into unexpected trouble. I’d love to see 99 lose control. I’d love to see something happen to 99 where her heart gets broken, and you see her have a complete emotional collapse.

Hathaway: 'I Am A Wallflower'

18 September 2008 12:07 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Anne Hathaway is convinced she'll never be captured on camera stumbling out of a nightclub like other Hollywood stars - because she's such a "wallflower".

The 25-year-old Get Smart star has separated herself from her peers Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears - who've created a media circus with their scantily-clad club exits.

And Hathaway insists she has no plans to follow in their footsteps, because she lacks the confidence to let loose and enjoy a wild night on the town.

She says, "You know those girls that, like, go out? I'm just not confident enough to do that. I'm not the sort of girl that will throw on a short skirt and tease her hair up... Truly, I am a wallflower by nature."

Hathaway: 'Traumatic 2008 Will Make Me Stronger'

17 September 2008 6:35 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Anne Hathaway is convinced she'll emerge stronger from the wreckage of her relationship with jailed former fiance Raffaello Follieri.

The actress ditched Follieri in June after discovering he was facing 14 counts of wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and money laundering.

The 30-year-old is currently on trial in Manhattan and is facing a lengthy prison sentence.

Hathaway has been forced to deal with his betrayal in the public eye, as she promoted movie Get Smart and new release Rachel Getting Married. But she is determined the trauma will make her a stronger person.

She says, "Everything that has happened to me, good and bad, I feel has happened for a reason.

"I've been made stronger from the good stuff and much, much stronger from the bad stuff."
