Marvel shareholders were no doubt bracing for lousy news Tuesday when the superhero comics company issued its third-quarter results. After all, they realized that the company had not released a movie during the entire year. As it turned out, the company did indeed report a profits plunge of 60 percent on a 42-percent drop in revenue. It earned just $20 million on about $106 million in total sales. (Spider-Man 3 earned $148 million on its opening weekend.) Shareholder anticipation of the rotten results was apparently already reflected in the stock's price. (And, after all, Disney is acquiring the company in a cash and stock deal worth about $4 billion, keeping its current stock price perhaps artificially high.) In fact, Marvel stock climbed higher on Tuesday and higher still today (Wednesday), trading near its 52-week high of $51.86. »

Dylan Baker is returning for the upcoming Spider-Man 4 to possibly play the Lizard, but what about Willem Dafoe?
Dafoe played the Green Goblin in Spider-Man and then re-appeared, despite his character's death, in both sequels. With James Franco, who played Dafoe's son Harry Osborn, dying in Spider-Man 3, is there still a way for Dafoe to show up in Spider-Man 4? Dafoe told MTV that anything's "possible."
I think it's possible. But I haven't heard anything. Let's put it this way — no one's called.
How's that for leaving things open?

Welcome to Quick Hits – your chance to catch up on some of this week's hottest stories in less than 60 seconds. Ready? Go! One Villain for 'Spider-Man 4' – After Sam Raimi took a lot of heat for including multiple villains in Spider-Man 3, rumor has it he's decided to focus on only one for the fourth installment: the Lizard. Dylan Baker, who played Dr. Curt Connors (aka the Lizard's alter-ego) will most likely be back in Spider-Man 4, and will probably be the one who portrays Lizard. But will Sony put all their villainous marbles in one basket with a character actor who isn't too well known? [Marketsaw] New 'Alice in Wonderland' Trailer – Though it doesn't add a whole lot of new footage, an extended Alice in Wonderland trailer has popped up online....

Less than a week ago, Dylan Baker confirmed that he’d be returning as Dr. Curt Connors in Spider-Man 4. At the time, he said he’d be regulated to a small background role similar to his appearances in the last two Spidey films.
Now, comes an insider report from Jim over at Market Saw who’s saying that The Lizard may not only be in Spider-Man 4, but that he’d be the only villain of the movie. This of course would bring the franchise back to its one-villain roots as utilized in the first two movies of the series.
Sam Raimi did say that he loves The Lizard…
The info allegedly comes from a reliable inside source, but we know that the script is still being worked on by Gary Ross.
If true, this wouldn’t be unexpected as the franchise so far has made plenty of effort »

Given the months of speculation surrounding Spider-Man 4 and the possible villain of the piece, it’s almost a relief to be posting this particular update. Jim Dorey of MarketSaw has come into a choice piece of information, if true, it means that Sam Raimi and the powers that be have learned from the mistakes of Spider-Man 3 (i.e. three bloody villains) and are focusing on one character in particular – one that fans have been crying out for – The Lizard!
According to MarketSaw:
We all pretty much knew that either The Lizard and/or Carnage would be in this movie and now we have word that it will be The Lizard Only. No multiple villains. Again, strong source here. Of course, things could change – but it is highly doubtful.
I couldn’t be happier! Spider-man 3 suffered from too many story lines in my mind and with only one villain, »

There has been about as much speculation about the villains for Spider-Man 4 as there was disagreement with the use of villains in Spider-Man 3. Would we see one great villain or another parade of bad guys, the sort of thing that helped ruin the last entry in the series. Market Saw cites a source saying we've only got one villain. And that would be good news.
Jim Dorey writes that the dynamic in the new film will be Spidey vs. The Lizard. That's it. Now, The Lizard is the alter ego of Dr. Curt Connors, played in the past by Dylan Baker, who just confirmed this weekend he'd been contacted about the fourth Spider-Man, but didn't offer any details about how big his role would be. »

So here's some "less is more" comic book flick news* that may make you feel a little better about Spider-Man 4: Apparently A) there will be only one villain, which would be great, and B) that villain will (finally!) be Curt Connors aka The Lizard. And here's the best part: We don't have to wait for some gimmicky casting ploy, because the franchise already has the excellent Dylan Baker playing the role! Yes, Peter Parker's one-armed college professor will, after waiting patiently through three villain-packed films, get to shed his humanity and terrorize our favorite web-slinger with cold-blooded reptility. (Reptileness?)
Both MarketSaw and Collider have more information, but of course details are very sketchy at this early point. If these early reports are true, I offer a back-pat to Sam Raimi and his writing / producing team for trying to scale the next sequel back a bit, instead of trying »

When we were going through the possible villains to be seen in Spider-Man 3, one always brought up was The Lizard. Spider-Man 2 prepped the idea by making sure we got to see Dylan Baker as Dr. Conners; and his arm was missing. But the final decision came to Sandman and Venom. Two choices that I loved, but didn't play out that well in the end.
So now we're up to Spider-Man 4, and the number one villain choice once again has become The Lizard.
Spider-Man 4 Villain Choice: The Lizard
The good people at MarketSaw have received a tip that The Lizard will be the one and only villain to be seen in the next Spidy installment. I, for one, can't help but agree with the site with its claim that the franchise has fared much better with a single villain rather than getting tied up in too many weak storylines. »

It looks like the Spider-Man team took a hint. According to MarketSaw, Spider-Man 4 will shed the Spider-Man 3 multi-villain disaster and stick to just one villain, and that baddie will be . drum roll please . The Lizard! Last week we told you that Dylan Baker confirmed his involvement in the fourth film. He has appeared in all three films as Peter Parker.s college professor Dr. Curt Connors who, in the comics, eventually becomes the supervillain The Lizard. Connors was only a minor player in the second and third films, but if these reports are accurate, he could be front and center in the fourth. While MarketSaw dubs their source .strong,. it.s hard to let go and get super hyped about the news. If the Lizard is indeed the villain, it would certainly allow director Sam Raimi to take the franchise in a better direction. Earlier this month, Raimi »

We may have just taken a step forward in finding out who’ll be Spidey’s nemesis in the upcoming Spider-Man 4.
During a question and answer session following a screening of Trick ‘r Treat, Dylan Baker announced that he had received a call regarding Spider-Man 4 earlier in the day, and that he had agreed to join the film.
Baker appeared in both Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, playing the minor role of Empire State University’s Dr. Curt Connors. This is the role Baker will reprising in the fourth film, although fans of the Spider-Man franchise have to wonder how large the role of Dr. Connors will be.
During the Q&A, Baker said that he’d mostly be remaining in the background for Spider-Man 4, but given certain variables I have to question whether Baker is just trying to throw us off track.

Spider-Man 3 was far from great but I will say Thomas Haden Church gave a pretty good performance as reluctant villain Sandman. Like Alfred Molina (Dr. Octopus) before him and Willem Dafoe (Green Goblin) prior to that. Church brought a tragic element to the role. Yes, they all ended up portraying villains but you kind of felt sorry for them. I’ll even go so far as to say as much as Venom sucked in the last film, Topher Grace had an ounce of that innate misery in his portrayal of Eddie Brock.
Well, perhaps we’ll see that again in Spider-Man 4 as Dylan Baker will be reprising his role as Dr. Connor. While we have yet to see his true villain side manifest as The Lizard in the films maybe it will finally happen. Collider reports:
“Baker joked with “Trick-r-Treat” writer/director Dougherty about his role in the film, »

Speculation, here we come!
Dylan Baker, the actor who played the minor role of Dr. Curt Connors in the last two Spider-Man movies has confirmed that he’ll be in Spider-Man 4. Now, this doesn’t mean we’ll be seeing his scaly alter ego known as The Lizard, but it sure wouldn’t be surprising.
Even if The Lizard wasn’t making his appearance, we’d expect Dr. Curt Connors to play at least a small part again. It wouldn’t make sense to have him involved in the plot of Spider-Man 2 & 3 then throw him away.
During the Q&A segment for a Trick ‘r Treat presentation on Wednesday, Mr. Baker was asked about his involvement in the next Sam Raimi Spidey adventure and he said he was on-board but that he’d just be a smaller background character again.

Dylan Baker joined Michael Dougherty at a Q&A after a screening of Trick 'r Treat at New York's Walter Reade Theater last night, and in amongst questions about the horror movie, Baker revealed that he would indeed be appearing in Sam Raimi's upcoming Spider-Man 4.
According to reports, Baker said that he had just gotten his first call concerning Spider-Man 4 that very day. Baker appeared in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 as Dr. Curt Connors, a professor at Empire State University. In the comics, Dr. Connors is fated to turn into Spidey's scaly foe, The Lizard, but when this transformation will occur in the feature film franchise is as yet a mystery.
When Dougherty ribbed him about "just appearing in the background", Baker said that that's basically what he'd be doing again, but because they were in a jovial mood it's unclear whether he was being truthful »

Last night, Dylan Baker was at a special presentation of Halloween horror flick Trick ‘r Treat in New York City. (By the way, if you haven’t seen that yet, it’s on DVD and it’s a great rental for the season). After the screening, Baker answered questions from the audience and Ugo.com was there to hear the good news.
Dylan Baker will return for Spider-Man 4 as Dr. Curtis Connors, a small role in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 at Empire State University. He’s the one who explains the symbiote in the third film that attaches itself to Peter Parker and later Venom.
Michael Dougherty (the TrT director) joked about Baker’s role thus far, remarking that his character was “just appearing in the background.” It’s unclear whether they were saying he’d continue as a small supporting role or if he’d finally step into the spotlight this time. »

There are some big casting rumors circling two big #4 features in the works:
Will Dylan Baker finally have a chance to play the Lizard in Spider-Man 4? Looks that way, as during a Q&A for the new horror flick Trick 'R Treat in New York City the other night, Baker said that he'd just gotten a call regarding Spider-Man 4 and that he's definitely onboard for the fourth installment. Of course, considering the fact that Baker played the unassuming Dr. Curt Connors in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3, there's a chance he'll be playing the same boring, no-nothing role for a third time. But since this will most likely be the last film for Sam Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst -- thereby making it the last film within this particular Spider-Man universe -- then I can't see why they wouldn't finally move forward with Baker as the Lizard. »

Since you’re reading Screen Rant, I’m going to safely assume you’re a movie fan. That’s a given, right? That said, do you have a Twitter account? And if so do you use it to Tweet what you think about the latest movies? “Transformers sucked!” “Zombieland is the best movie of the year!” “Spider-Man 3 was such a disappointment!” and so on and so forth. Well, if you do use Twitter at least partly for that purpose, you might be interested in the latest Twitter-related website that has launched called TwitCritics.com.
So what is it? Well, it’s pretty simple, really: TwitCritics is basically the Rotten Tomatoes of Twitter, but taking the opinions of average movie fans instead of movie critics. Basically it searches through all Tweets that have keywords related to a particular movie, and then compiles a percentage rating of how many are positive and negative. »

It may have been a foregone conclusion, but Dylan Baker himself confirmed the good news that he would indeed be reprising his role as Peter Parker’s one-armed Professor/mentor, during a Q&A for Mike Dougherty’s “Trick-r-Treat” (which, by the way, everyone should see, because it’s awesome). While Dr. Connors has appeared in minor roles in the first two Spidey flicks, usually with fewer lines than Bruce Campbell, there has been constant chatter on the interwebs that this may be the film where we finally see Connors transform into the vicious Lizard. For a few more details on what was said at the Q&A, change out your web cartridge and hit the jump.

Actor Dylan Baker confirmed to Ugo that he will again be in the fourth installment of the Spider-Man movie franchise. After three previous appearances as Dr. Curt Connors, the man who becomes "The Lizard" in the comic books, does this mean that he will finally get his shot at lead villain?
Baker said that he had just gotten his first call concerning Spider-Man 4 that very day, and joked about "just appearing in the background." Whether or not that was a deliberate attempt to mislead reporters is unclear. What is clear is that after the debacle of Spider-Man 3, director Sam Raimi sorely needs to get back to basics, and it would be a crying shame to again overlook one of Spidey's classic foes — and one of our Top 10 Spider-Man 4 Villain Candidates.

It was nearly two years ago that I first told you of a creature feature called The Platform starring William Forsythe and Art Lafleur about a crew trapped aboard an oil rig with a mutant monster. Been so long I had completely forgotten about the film until the other day when I decided to check on the status of it. At the time information was scarce. Now I find the film has a new title - The Rig, a new website, and a new trailer.
"When a tropical storm forces an offshore drilling company to evacuate non-essential personnel from the "Charlie" oil rig, the small but experienced crew left behind settles in to ride out the storm. Isolated on the rig, their routine night is interrupted when a crew member goes missing and an extensive search proves futile. Slowly, they discover that a deadly creature is stalking the crew, eliminating them one by one. »
