I am new to this stunning show and have been catching the repeats on ITV3 in Europe. It is one of the best written, acted, directed and produced shows I have ever seen. If I had control of it, this is the way I'd do it. What caught me first was the unusually high standard of scripts which have a special quality. The pathos and humour in all the right places. Constantly surprising dramatic twists that have left me almost gasping and a handful of surreal episodes per season was/is the icing on the cake. This is another example of the kind of writing we used to get in Britain many moons ago. Dialogues are word perfect. This show seems to take its time and not do what is spoiling so many other television dramas (E.R.) with staccato cutting from scene to scene, which has become so slick it undermines interest in the several narrative threads. Watching the watchable Christine Lahti made me think that the producers must have an affection for the film The Doctor, as quite a few cast members have come from that excellent film. The actors are something else - everyone of em and what writers? wow!
Chicago Hope will forever go down in my book/heart and soul! as one of the best television dramas ever.
