  • Revealing mistakes: When Michael is driving to the gas station on the highway, the Cadillac's gearshift lever is in "Park".

  • Errors in geography: The train is Southern Pacific, correct for the shooting locale, Arizona, but not possible for the story's setting in Wyoming where it would be Union Pacific.

  • Miscellaneous: When Lyle shoots the window out of the car, the next shot shows the hammer of the automatic pistol down. Firing the weapon would have caused it to be cocked. Additionally, no cartridge shell was ejected; in reality, one would have hit the windshield on the inside of the car.

  • Errors in geography: Red Rock, Wyoming, is supposedly 50 miles east of Medicine Bow. Near the end of the film, a deputy announces that he's 'called for backup from Laramie and Rawlins.' Within moments (even allowing for movie time), several police cars show up to chase down 'the man from Texas.' Given Red Rock's supposed location, it would be around 80 miles from Laramie and over 100 miles from Rawlins. So how did those cops get there that fast?

  • Errors made by characters (possibly deliberate errors by the filmmakers): When Lyle and Michael are discussing both being in the Marine Corps; Lyle ends the conversation with "any time, soldier." It is unlikely that a marine would refer to another Marine as "soldier," but would call him or her "marine" instead.
