Original Air Date: 19 September 1975 Basil is delighted when a member of the aristocracy chooses to stay at the Fawlty Towers, snubbing the normal guests who frequent the hotel. What Basil does not know, however, is that the man is not a Lord but a confidence trickster who attempts to steal his collection of rare coins. As Basil's desperation to keep such an 'upstanding' guest increases, he becomes increasingly tolerant towards the man's behavior, only to have the guest arrested in a police raid on the hotel.
Original Air Date: 26 September 1975 When some work is required on the hotel lobby, Basil goes for the cheapest quote - an Irish builder by the name of O'Reilly - the moment his wife is out of the way. O'Reilly and his workers make a mess of the job, fitting doors where they shouldn't be and putting in walls where there were supposed to be doors. As a result, Sybil is forced to call in a proper builder, only to suffer embarrassment when O'Reilly returns to fix the mess he made. However, she soon realizes that thanks to the work of O'Reilly and his men, the hotel is no longer structurally sound.
Original Air Date: 3 October 1975 Basil's prudish nature is outraged by what he perceives to be an outbreak of promiscuity at Fawlty Towers. As ever, he grabs the wrong end of the stick and then proceeds to beat himself with it. Yet another terrible day for Basil ends with his apparent discovery by the guests in a compromising position with Manuel.
Original Air Date: 10 October 1975 Basil is terrified by the news that hotel inspectors are in the area - and well he might be. The awful probability occurs to him that the eccentric guest to whom he has been so appallingly offensive may be one of the officials. His ranting turns to a pathetic fawning - but has he got the right man?
Original Air Date: 17 October 1975 The cream of Torquay society turns out for a special gourmet night at Fawlty Towers. Expectations are high but so, unfortunately, is the chef. In fact, he's incapably drunk! A desperate Basil hurtles round to a friend's restaurant in a car that's about as reliable as his chef. His mission is to find a replacement main course - he's out for a duck.
Original Air Date: 24 October 1975 Basil is left to run the hotel on his own while Sybil has an ingrown toenail removed. He quickly makes a mess of things, resulting in him suffering a concussion. He insists on continuing to manage the hotel, despite his condition, and ends up offending a group of guests from Germany.
Original Air Date: 19 February 1979 When the Mrs.Richardson, a demanding woman who is hard of hearing, checks into the hotel, Basil, Sybil and Polly find themselves with a very difficult customer. Meanwhile, Basil bets on a horse that is sure to win, however he must not let Sybil find out.
Original Air Date: 26 February 1979 When two doctors register for rooms at Fawlty Towers, Basil is delighted. Soon thereafter, Basil discovers that one is a psychiatrist. Basil is terrified of what the psychiatrist might think of him. The doctor has no interest in analyzing Basil; he merely wants to enjoy his stay at the hotel. Meanwhile, a handsome young playboy has checked into one of the "single" rooms, and Basil is determined to prove that the man has a lady visitor. Another visitor to the hotel is an attractive young single woman. Basil manages to make a fool of himself while trying to avoid what he believes to be the psychiatrist's scrutiny.
Original Air Date: 5 March 1979 An American couple arrives at the hotel late at night expecting to be served a hot dinner. But with the chef off for the night, Basil is forced to make the dinner himself. Things get even more complicated when the two Americans begin ordering meals that Basil has never heard of.
Original Air Date: 12 March 1979 A guest unexpectedly dies during the night. While Sybil, Polly and Manuel try to handle the situation professionally, Basil is concerned only with how it might make the hotel look--especially since he fears being charged with food poisoning.
Original Air Date: 26 March 1979 Outraged that Basil has forgotten their 15th wedding anniversary, Sybil leaves the hotel. But little does she know that Basil has indeed remembered and has invited some of their close friends to celebrate. How will Basil explain Sybil's absence?
Original Air Date: 25 October 1979 Basil and the rest of the staff are in deep trouble when the health inspector turns up and delivers an enormous list of problems with the hotel. Things become even worse when Manuel's rat gets loose and runs riot around the hotel.
