A new production of King Lear is beginning to look like an incredibly promising Shakespeare film. As we reported last month, Anthony Hopkins is set to tackle one of the Bard's most tortured characters, with Keira Knightley and Gwyneth Paltrow singing on to play his daughters. The only thing is, Lear has three daughters.
Enter Naomi Watts, whom The Guardian confirms will play the eldest of the three girls. I guess Mom must've been quite a looker if these are her three girls...because they didn't get it from the King.
Don't expect a big, glitzy Shakespeare, though, just because the actors are all Academy Award nominees and movie stars in their own right. Director Joshua Michael Stern told the paper, "The one thing that I'm staying away from is stunt casting. So there won't be the American comedian, but there will be some really great actors playing smaller roles

Anthony Hopkins has been confirmed to play the title role in a new movie version of Shakespeare's King Lear. The actor is said to be "thrilled" to be starring in the film, which was announced at Cannes last month. He first played the role in a stage production at the National Theatre in 1987. Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts and Keira Knightley will take the roles of his daughters Regan, Goneril and Cordelia respectively. Director Joshua Michael Stern is quoted as saying: "The one thing that I'm staying away from (more)

Keira Knightley has vowed to continue starring in smaller British films and not solely concentrate on bigger budget American fare. "What’s wonderful about being an actor is I've had the opportunity to do ridiculously huge piratical adventures and then do something that's much smaller and intimate," Knightley told Digital Spy, referring to her new film The Edge Of Love in which she stars with Sienna Miller. "I want to carry on making British films, but (more)

Actress Sienna Miller was happy to share intimate scenes with co-star Keira Knightley in their new movie The Edge Of Love - because she isn't afraid of filming lesbian clinches.
The Factory Girl stars as Caitlin MacNamara in the film, based on the life of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, and is required to share baths, a bed, and saucy glances with Knightley.
Miller, 26, credits her fellow actress and director John Maybury with making her feel comfortable on the set - but warns fans they might not get as much eroticism as they expect.
She says, "I think people were hoping for a lot more than you get. We'd have the odd snog together. It wasn't all the time, but you know, who hasn't dabbled?
"I think Caitlin was quite a sexual person, and I know that she did, well, dabble a bit. And besides, female friendships can often be tactile and intimate."

Actress Keira Knightley was happy to film a sex scene for new movie The Edge Of Love - even though the naked romp was written by her mother.
The movie's screenplay was penned by Knightley's mum, Sharman Macdonald, who also served as a producer on the project.
Knightley insists that knowing her mother is capable of writing about steamy clinches didn't faze her and she was happy to strip off wherever necessary.
She says, "She dared to put a sex scene in it. It didn't worry me that my mother knows what sex is.
"Come to think of it, I was found under an apple tree. My mother is a virgin. I had no hissy fits when she presented me with the scene."

Sir Anthony Hopkins has been confirmed as the latest actor to play King Lear in a big screen adaptation of Shakespeare's great tragedy.
American newcomer Josh Michael Stern has assembled an all-star cast for the ambitious film, which will start shooting in Britain or Ireland early next year.
Gwyneth Paltrow, Naomi Watts and Kiera Knightley will play the tragic king's three daughters, and director Stern insists there will be many more suitable big-name surprises in his blockbuster.
He says, "It's going to be really good... The one thing that I'm staying away from is stunt casting, so there won't be the American comedian, but there will be some really great actors playing smaller roles that will make a lot of sense."
Stern also plans to stick to Shakespeare's dialogue in the film in a bid to make sure the movie is as authentic as possible: "I'm not very fond of the modern adaptations... It's pre-Roman, Celtic, very raw.
"It's a period in British history, from which (Lord of The Rings author) Tolkien took a lot of his inspiration, where there were thatched-roof roundhouses and fortresses."
Stern's new Lear will give Hopkins the chance to revisit a character that won him acclaim on stage - the Oscar winner played the king in revered playwright David Hare's King Lear production at the National Theatre in London in the late 1980s.
The director adds, "Hopkins is thrilled."

Bosses on beloved British TV series Midsomer Murders are desperate to sign up superstars Keira Knightley and Sharon Stone in a bid to add some Hollywood spice to the long-running show.
The show's producers are keen to entice Hollywood actresses and other big names in showbusiness to ignite new interest in the quaint ITV1 drama.
The programme, which stars U.K. veteran actor John Nettles, already has one superstar fan - Johnny Depp is reportedly hooked on the series after catching it on TV while filming in the U.K.
And the show's boss, Brian True-May, is eager to sign up some high profile actors - insisting he would love to "murder" Basic Instinct star Stone in an over-the-top scene.
He says, "I would just love to murder her. Sharon would be wonderful. She is beautiful and it would be edgy, over-the-top casting."
And the producer has his eyes cast in the direction of British beauty Knightley, saying, "Keira would be perfect. She is so delicate and lovely, she would make the perfect killer, it would be so unexpected and so against character and, let's face it, we wouldn't want to throw away such beauty as a murder victim."

Keira Knightley didn't hesitate when she was asked to bare her breasts in new movie The Edge Of Love - because she believes sex scenes are more believable when performed by naked actors.
The 23-year-old actress has no qualms about appearing in the buff, insisting nudity has even become a habit of hers.
She tells People magazine, "I always bare my breasts. It's not like it's only in this film!"
So when Edge Of Love filmmaker John Maybury requested her to remove her bra, she was happy to oblige: "I said, 'All right then.'
"It was very simple. It was a sex scene and I never like them when they've got bras on."

Keira Knightley has revealed that paparazzi would fall out of trees trying to photograph her on the set of her new film. The 23-year-old said working on a low-budget movie made it easier for snappers to get on to the Welsh set for The Edge Of Love. "We did have paparazzi falling out of trees," she said. Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller bonded on the set of new movie The Edge Of Love - because they share a passion for children.
The stars' roles in the picture required them to carry around young children and it made them considered having kids of their own.
Miller says, "As a woman you have instincts and you do get a bit broody, definitely. It didn't last, though."
Knightley adds, "The babies were amazing, absolutely gorgeous."

Keira Knightley isn't anorexic – her slim figure is thanks to her dad, not a restrictive diet, says the star's mom. "She has always been thin," Knightley's mother, Sharman Macdonald, told Britain's Sunday Times. "She's her daddy's daughter, with his long body." Like her father, the actress, 23, must "eat like a horse," to maintain her weight, Macdonald said. Knightley eats a diet high in protein and carbohydrates to make sure she doesn't lose any more weight.Last year, Knightley successfully sued Britain's Daily Mail, saying that the tabloid implied she'd lied about having an eating disorder. In 2006, Knightley vociferously denied that she suffered from anorexia.

Harry Potter star Emma Watson is set to replace Keira Knightley as the face of French fashion house Chanel - signing a reported $6 million (GBP3 million) contract.
Knightley has been the star of the advertising campaigns for premium fragrance Coco Chanel since 2006, but the actress's contract expires this summer.
And bosses at Chanel have reportedly lined up 18-year-old Watson to take
Knightley's place.
A source tells British newspaper The Mail on Sunday, "Emma has been slowly integrated into the Chanel brand. They have been dressing her for film premieres and parties over recent months to see if she is the right fit.
"Once it became clear she is growing into a beautiful young woman and wears the Chanel brand so elegantly, they had to sign her up."

Keira Knightley's screenwriter mother Sharman MacDonald has hit out at media rumours suggesting her daughter is suffering from anorexia - comparing the press to "playground bullies".
Knightley has long been dogged by rumours that her waif-like figure is the result of an eating disorder, but she has always denied this - blaming her genes for her naturally svelte figure.
Last year, the 23-year-old successfully sued a British tabloid newspaper for publishing an article which accused her of being anorexic and setting a bad example to young girls.
And the star's mother Macdonald can't understand why the media is so obsessed with her daughter's weight.
She tells British newspaper The Sunday Times, "She's always been thin. She's her daddy's daughter, with his long body.
"It's a playground situation that we're looking at with the press - it's a form of bullying - but what can we do?"

Irish actor Cillian Murphy has slammed the paparazzi for stalking his co-stars Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller on the U.K. set of their forthcoming movie The Edge Of Love.
The star claims the actresses were harassed daily by the British press - and admits watching the photographers' behaviour made him feel uncomfortable.
He tells Britain's Harper's Bazaar magazine, "It's not a pleasant thing to witness happening to such cool girls, and it makes it very hard for them to concentrate on their job.
"I totally admire them for putting up with it - if I walked out of my house every morning and there were 15 men waiting to photograph me, I couldn't do it."

Director John Maybury has apologised to Welsh poet Dylan Thomas' daughter - after her cameo in upcoming biopic The Edge Of Love was scrapped.
Aeronwy Thomas, 62, was asked to play a minor role in the big screen story of her poet father's life, which stars British beauties Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller.
However, the film's editors didn't deem the role important enough to make the movie's final cut.
Maybury says, "She was an extra in one of the scenes but unfortunately my editor put her on the cutting room floor. It wasn't me."
The movie is set to premiere at the Edinburgh Film Festival later this month.
