Bale Denies Assault Allegations

Batman star Christian Bale has denied assaulting his mother and sister after he was released from police custody on Tuesday . Bale, 34, is alleged to have attacked his mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, at London's Dorchester Hotel on Sunday night . In a statement issued shortly after Bale's release, a spokesperson for the star says: "Christian Bale attended a London police station today , on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister. "Mr. Bale, who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale." The actor's arrest came just hours after he attended the European premiere of his new Batman movie The Dark Knight in London's Leicester Square on Monday , alongside stars Maggie Gyllenhaal and Sir Michael Caine. According to reports, authorities did not attempt to arrest the star until after the high-profile event because they were certain Bale would not flee the country to resist arrest, adding that the lack of severity in the case did not warrant an immediate response. The actor has reportedly been ordered by police to make a court appearance in September .

Getty Confirms Separation From Wife

Actor Balthazar Getty has confirmed reports he has split from his wife Rosetta, amid rumours he is having an affair with actress Sienna Miller. The Brothers And Sisters star, 33, was photographed frolicking on a yacht off Italy's Amalfi coast with a topless Miller earlier this month , just days after he denied he was romantically involved with the Alfie star. But Getty, who has four children with Rosetta, says the photographs have forced him to admit he and his wife are living apart. In a statement released on Monday , he says, "The breakdown of a marriage is a very difficult and painful experience especially when children are involved. "In light of the fact that many pictures have surfaced in print and on the Internet which has caused myself and my family great embarrassment, I felt it necessary to at least acknowledge publicly that, yes indeed my wife and I have separated and I will not be commenting any further."

Estelle Getty Dies

The Golden Girls star Estelle Getty has died of dementia, just three days before her 85th birthday. She passed away in the early hours of Tuesday morning at her Los Angeles, California home. The actress had endured a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia, a disease exhibiting symptoms similar to Alzheimer's Disease and Parkinson's. Born in New York in 1923, Getty began her acting career with a small part in 1978 comedy Team-mates. She went on to land roles in 1982 classic Tootsie and 1985's Mask, but it was her turn as wise-cracking Sicilian mother Sophia Petrillo on 1980s sitcom The Golden Girls that made her a household name. She is also known for her stint on New York's Broadway in a 1982 production of Torch Song Trilogy. Getty later starred in movies including Stuart Little, Throw Momma From The Train and Mannequin. Paying tribute to the star, her longtime care-giver Paul Chapdelaine says, "Sadly, today July 22, 2008 at 5:35 a.m. Pacific Time, we said our last good-byes to our little friend Estelle, who passed away and made her journey to the great beyond. Although it was a trip that she never wanted to take, she went gracefully, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her family and her very loving care-givers. Estelle's legacy will live on and on through the comedy and laughter she gave to us all, which will forever keep us laughing out loud... Estelle was a fighter. She always stood up for the underdogs, fought for equality for all, and always pictured a world filled with "Love and Laughter" - her most favourite catch phrase. Estelle, we love you and will miss you dearly. We pray that you are met at the Pearly Gate with open arms and a warm welcome by all who have passed before you.... You have touched my life, and the lives of so many others who will never forget you." The Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning actress is survived by two adult sons from her marriage to Arthur Gettleman. He passed away in 2004.

Bale Arrest Dubbed 'A Family Situation'

Christian Bale's mother and sister have spoken out about their reported fight with the actor, calling it a "family situation". The Batman star, 34, was arrested on Tuesday over allegations he attacked his mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, at London's Dorchester Hotel on Sunday night - as he prepared for new movie The Dark Knight's London premiere on Monday . After he was released on bail, the actor issued a statement denying the assault, prompting Jenny and Sharon to speak out, confirming to Britain's Daily Telegraph newspaper that an "incident" did take place. Sharon says, "There was an incident but the police are dealing with it. It is an extremely sensitive situation. There is nothing more I can say." Jenny, a former circus performer, adds, "Yes I was there and yes there was a family situation but the police are handling it and I cannot say any more at the moment. We didn't call the police to the scene." Sources tell the newspaper the incident was over a long-running family dispute. Bale, who left his mother's home in Wales as a teenager to live with his environmental activist dad in Los Angeles, is due to return to London to face possible charges in September . In a statement issued after he left London's Belgravia police station on Tuesday, Bale's spokesperson said, "Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister. "Mr. Bale, who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, and left the station without any charge being made against him by police."

Longoria Parker Takes Name Out Of Alma Contention

Eva Longoria Parker has withdrawn her name from contention for the 2008 American Latino Media Arts (Alma) Awards - because she wants acting newcomers to be recognised for their efforts. The 33-year-old Desperate Housewives star joined former Dancing With The Stars contestant Cristian de la Fuente to announce the nominations for this year's ceremony at the Universal Studios Backlot in California on Monday. And after revealing the new contenders, she admitted she had asked to have her own name removed from the running. She says, "Everybody knows Desperate Housewives; let's recognise the people that you may not know on certain shows. I'm involved in the balloting and the selection process and the committee. So for me it was a conflict of interest." The winners will be revealed at a ceremony hosted by Longoria Parker on 17 August and will be aired on U.S. TV on 12 September .

Cyrus: 'Photoshoot Was A Mistake'

Teen star Miley Cyrus admits it was a mistake to be photographed semi-nude for Vanity Fair magazine - but insists it has brought her closer to her young fans. The 15-year-old singer sparked controversy when she was snapped topless, wearing just a bedsheet, by celebrity photographer Annie Leibowitz for the June issue of the magazine. But the photo scandal hasn't stopped the Disney star from reaching out to her impressionable young audience - because they can relate to her "mistakes". She says, "I think I was in a stage where I was trying to get things done and maybe work with an older audience, I was working with a big magazine and was trying to go with what they were trying to say. "Everyone has made a mistake. Anyone that was 15 years old, they can't say they (haven't) made mistakes. So I think it's just normal. I think it's made me more relatable. She adds of parents' concerns their children have idolised an improper role model: "People do need to remember that I am young, that I do have feelings and that I'll do the same thing for them and help their kids through it. Anytime they need advice, I think they can come to me even more with an open heart because they know that I've struggled as well."

Gyllenhaal Supports Ledger Oscar Nod

Maggie Gyllenhaal is backing the campaign to have her late The Dark Knight co-star Heath Ledger posthumously honoured with an Oscar. Christian Bale and Sir Michael Caine have both supported calls for Ledger to receive a gong at next year's Academy Awards for his portrayal of The Joker. And the actress believes Ledger deserves an award because his role was inspiring to other actors. She tells Wenn, "In order to be a good actor you have to find a place where you are free, but it's very unusual to be absolutely free in the way that he was in this movie. "It was inspiring working with him. It was such a pleasure. "In a way I feel funny about thinking about Oscars when he isn't alive, but at the same time I'm a member of the Academy and I would vote for him."

Arthur Pays Tribute To Golden Girl Getty

Golden Girls co-stars Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan have become the first celebrities to pay tribute to actress Estelle Getty, who died early on Tuesday . Arthur, who played Getty's daughter on the hit sitcom, says, "Our mother-daughter relationship was one of the greatest comic duos ever, and I will miss her." McClanahan adds, "Estelle always wanted to be an actress and she achieved that goal beyond her dreams. Don't feel sad about her passing, she will always be with us in her crowning achievement." Getty died at her Los Angeles, California, home from Lewy Body Dementia, a progressive brain disease.

Connery Brands Ex-wife's Claims 'Insane'

Sir Sean Connery has denied leaving his son Jason out of his will - and has branded his ex-wife's claims "insane". The former Bond star has been accused by Diane Cilento - whom he was married to for 11 years - of refusing to leave his son any inheritance. But Connery insists she is still bitter about the breakdown of their marriage. He says, "I haven't seen the woman in 37 years and she knows nothing about me or my life now. "Diane can't move on from the break up of our marriage and I have already had to contend with her accusations about me being violent towards her. Now the lies seem to be getting even more vicious, and, what is worse, she is dragging our son into it. "I have just come off the phone to Jason and I know he will be making his own statement but I never told him I wasn't going to leave him a penny in my will or that I said he only had the career he has as an actor and director because of his family name. He happens to have talent of his own." Connery also reveals he set up a trust fund worth $170,000 (?85,000) for Jason, now 43, and Cilento's daughter while they were still a couple.

Campbell Thanks Beckham For Support

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has publicly thanked Victoria Beckham for helping her through her recent legal troubles. The British catwalk star was fined and sentenced to 200 hours' community service last month after assaulting two police officers onboard a British Airways flight at London's Heathrow Airport in April . And she claims the former Spice Girl was by her side throughout the entire court ordeal. Campbell says, "When I was going through my hard time recently she was immediately on the phone, asking me how I was doing and saying, 'I hope you're well.' She was very sweet. "I speak to Victoria pretty regularly about normal, mundane stuff. We share girl stuff and she is so funny - people just don't know her or get her. "She also works incredibly hard - that girl works her a**e off. And she's a mother of three - that can't be easy. I really love Victoria and David Beckham."

Caine: 'Batman Success Hard To Top'

Michael Caine would find it difficult to star in a third Batman film - because The Dark Knight has been such a huge success. The veteran actor, who was in London for the European premiere of The Dark Knight on Monday , reprises his role as Alfred in the sequel and thinks that the film is one of the best movies he has starred in. He tells Wenn, "I think this one will be such a success it will be difficult to do a sequel because we've done one and we've topped it, obviously, and now we've got to top this. "That is difficult. That is difficult because we've already broken the box office (record) in American movie history. We've got to break our own record. It's hard." It was reported that The Dark Knight took $155.34 million (?77.67 million) at the U.S. box office this weekend (18-20Jul08) but new figures show it actually made $158.3 million (?79.15 million). Caine adds, "This is something. It's not just the best Batman but it's one of the best movies. It really is."

Madonna has been diagnosed with anaemia and ordered to take a break from rehearsals for her forthcoming tour, according to tabloid reports. The pop legend and fitness fanatic has been working out to a demanding schedule ahead of her Sticky & Sweet Tour, which kicks off next month . But British newspaper The Sun claims the 49-year-old is now resting on doctor's orders, after medics found she was suffering anaemia, which causes a lack of oxygen in the organs. The newspaper reports that the star is also suffering a knee injury and is recuperating in New York resort The Hamptons. A source tells the publication, "Madonna is doing less than OK. She has been rehearsing for the tour and she is totally miserable. She's down physically and mentally. "Madonna was told to go soft on work and rehearsals, so she will now take one proper day off every week and go easy in the mornings. Spears Snapped Smoking Next To Son

Britney Spears' parenting skills have come under question once again after she exposed her young son to second-hand smoke. The pop star was photographed with her two-year-old son Sean Preston on Sunday as he attempted to play with his mum's cigarettes. Spears is seen in the photos standing in a bikini next to Sean Preston as she lights up. The curious toddler holds a lighter in one hand and reaches for a pack of his mother's Marlboros with the other. Taken from the Toxic star's Beverly Hills, California home, Spears is snapped reaching down for the pack to stop her curious son taking them. Spears and her ex-husband Kevin Federline settled their ongoing custody dispute concerning their two young sons - Sean Preston and Jayden James, one - on Thursday , following a bitter 18-month battle. Under the agreement, which is currently awaiting approval from a judge, Federline retains sole custody of the boys while Spears maintained her allotted two visits and one overnight stay each week. Studies have proven links between second-hand smoke and childhood illnesses, including ear infections, bronchitis, asthma and other respiratory ailments.

Lopez Baffled By Diva Tag

Singer/actress Jennifer Lopez has laughed off long-standing rumours she has an extensive list of travel demands, blaming the media for exaggerating reports. The Jenny From The Block hitmaker has previously been said to demand an all-white dressing room and hotel accommodation, decked out in white lilies or roses. Other requests allegedly include grapefruit or lime blossom scented candles from beauty firm Jo Malone, humidifiers and a preferred room temperature of 26 degrees Celsius (80 degrees Fahrenheit). But Lopez insists the demands that have earned her a reputation as a diva are unfounded - and any peculiar requests are probably down to her personal assistants who do their best to make her feel at home while she's abroad. She says, "I think it's easier to make up this type of story rather than tell the truth. Like everybody in this profession, I have a list but I haven't seen mine in years. "I'm sure it's got (sic) longer without me knowing it. Really, I don't have any special requests, it must be my team's doing. They know my likes and they just want me to be comfortable, but believe me, I'm a nice guest at hotels!"
