Thor and Pirates of the Caribbean 4 Shuffle Release Dates

It seems that Spider-Man 4's recent setback has left the studios scrambling to shuffle up their summer 2011 release deck, and now the cards have fallen into place. HitFix is reporting that Marvel Studios will move its summer 2011 tentpole Thor to the May 6, 2011 release date vacated by Spider-Man 4. When one film shifts its release date, though, there are usually others that follow. Thor was originally set for release on May 20, 2011 and now that slot is open, Disney announced on their Twitter page that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides has taken the May 20 release slot. James Franco Set to Survive 127 Hours

It seems director Danny Boyle has found the leading man for his film about an incredibly brave mountain climber. According to Production Weekly's Twitter feed, James Franco has signed on to star in 127 Hours. Franco will portray mountain climber Aron Ralston, who made national news in 2003 when he was forced to amputate his own arm that was crushed under a boulder for more than five days, while climbing in Utah. After the amputation, he had to climb a 65-foot wall of rock and hiked until he was discovered by a family and later rescued by helicopter. The film was said to start production at the beginning of March in Utah. »

According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC has picked up two new, untitled comedy pilots, with Carlos Mencia set to star in one and Cedric the Entertainer to topline the other. The Mencia project, written by Mitchel Katlin and Nat Bernstein, will be based on Mencia's own life and his stand-up routines. It was said that the series will have Mencia stuck in the middle of his very large, multi-cultural family. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox has greenlit the latest pilot from The Shield creator Shawn Ryan, entitled Ridealong, while CBS has picked up Matt Tarses' pilot True Love. Ryan's Ridealong will follow the trials and tribulations of a Chicago cop who tries to clean up his violent and corrupt city. Ryan created the pilot and will executive produce, which adds to his already-full slate of executive producing and showrunning the Fox series Lie to Me along with his new FX series, Terriers. Tarses' True Love will follow a group of four friends in New York as they search for love. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Deadwood creator David Milch is teaming up with filmmaker Michael Mann for a new HBO pilot entitled Luck. Kick-Ass Selected as South by Southwest's Opening Film

The 2010 South by Southwest will kick off its film programming in a big, superhero way this year. The festival announced that Matthew Vaughn's Kick-Ass will be the opening film at the 2010 South by Southwest film line-up. The film portion of the festival starts on March 12 and runs through March 21. The film, based off the comic book by Mark Millar and John Romita, stars Nicolas Cage, Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz and is set for a theatrical release on April 16.
