At only 23-years-old, there is no shortage of opportunities for Solange Knowles in the entertainment industry. However as mom to Daniel Julez, turning 5 this month, the singer insists her top priority has always been — and will always be — motherhood.
“A lot of people feel like their life has to stop because of the child and they have to let go of their interests. You definitely have to compromise some of them, but I’ve been really blessed,” she reveals in the November issue of Honey magazine.
According to Solange, a mantel adorned with awards is secondary to her dedication to Julez. »

While Kanye West spent his whole day apologizing for bum-rushing the stage and interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards, Swift herself stuck around the New York area to catch Kings of Leon at Long Island's Nassau Coliseum. The band ripped through a scorching set of songs culled mostly from their last two albums (last year's Only by the Night and 2007's Because of the Times), including their Top 10 hit "Use Somebody" (which was covered by Solange Knowles at Sunday night's show). Swift was spotted hanging out backstage at the arena, looking radiant in a black leather jacket and sipping an iced coffee from Starbucks.
Swift's whirlwind tour of New York (which began on Sunday at the VMAs, where she arrived in a "Cinderella"-esque carriage pulled by horses) continued this morning when she appeared on "The View." Swift recounted her thought process during »

The MTV VMAs brought its share of drama last night - some amazing performances, a heartfelt Michael Jackson tribute, and a huge moment that had everyone talking - it was a show that will go down in history. Check out all the winners here! The biggest story of the night was Kanye West making a scene when Taylor Swift won Best Female Video, but thankfully it all ended well when Beyonce Knowles sweetly called her up onto the stage to have her moment and he apologized profusely. The night was dedicated to Michael Jackson and kicked off with a touching tribute from Madonna and a performance including his sister Janet. The other big moment came when Kristen Stewart debuted her hot short haircut on stage with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner to debut another New Moon trailer - watch it here. Eminem was also a big winner for the night, »

Whether they went short or long, the gorgeous girls on the red carpet at last night's VMAs sparkled in metallic hues. Taylor Swift led the glamorous parade in her floor-length gown, while Leighton Meester and Kristin Cavallari looked hot in their silvery dresses - both of them are doing well in Fab's best dressed poll, but who do you think deserves the title? Jennifer Lopez's featured an intricate neck, and the first of Ashley Greene's two looks of the evening had a gold skirt. Stephanie Pratt stuck with the theme in her rhinestone-encrusted dress, while unintentional twins Pink and Shakira's dresses had a little gold embroidering. A few ladies paved their own ways style-wise - big winner of the evening Beyonce picked a bright red mini, Whitney Port stepped out in a black and white Christopher Kane, and Lauren Conrad picked a similarly simple short frock. 2009 MTV Video Music Awards is about to be kicked off and Lady GaGa is one of the few artists who come early to the event. The "Poker Face" hitmaker turns heads in shock as she hits the red carpet in bizarre outfit, donning a black lace Jean Paul Gaultier dress with Dragon print silk underlay from the designer's fall/winter ready to wear collection.
GaGa, who is up for nine awards at the annual gala held at the Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday, September 13, finishes off her look with a neck brace by Kiko jewelry. "I'm just happy to be here, and I'm excited for everyone to win," says the singer, who walks the carpet with the companion of Kermit the Frog.
Beside GaGa, movie hunk Taylor Lautner is also seen among the early arrivals. The Jacob Black of "Twilight" and its sequel "The Twilight »

It's hard to believe that all the action of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards can possibly be contained in just a few hours of prime time — especially considering that the first half hour alone will feature a hotly anticipated performance from Lady Gaga, another from Taylor Swift, a show-opening tribute to Michael Jackson featuring sister Janet Jackson, plus appearances from Eminem, Pete Wentz, Justin Bieber, Jack Black, Shakira, "Twilight" star Taylor Lautner and Kristin Cavallari.
A year after he needled the Jonas Brothers, Madonna and then-President George W. Bush, host Russell Brand has promised a kinder, gentler hosting stint for his second go 'round. This time, he says, it's all about the love — we'll see!
The action will take place at the historic Radio City Music Hall, »

The 2009 MTV Video Music Awards kick off with the Vma Preshow at 8 p.m. this Sunday, but the parties have already begun. Last night at the Vma Weekend Kick-Off Party (an event sponsored by Verizon), a small group of fans were treated to a set from Colorado rap-punk goofballs 3Oh!3. Revelers took the opportunity to celebrate Vma weekend by meeting Nat and Sean from the band, dancing and banging along to the group's performance. Always looking to be a band of the people, 3Oh!3 tumbled into the crowd in the middle of their Vma-nominated hit "Don't Trust Me," much to the delight of the people surrounding them who sang along with every note.
"I want to see you guys dancing out there," Sean announced from the stage. "Shake it a little bit!" The crowd didn't take much convincing, especially considering they were treated to hugs and photos with the band »

Along with Ucb, Wale is brining along a whole bunch of artists along for his Vma house-band ride. The Washington, D.C., rapper and his crew will be performing a series of originals and covers that will definitely keep the Video Music Awards crowd rocking all night.
One of his collaborators, Solange Knowles, gushed to MTV News, "Wale is a good friend of mine. And he's a phenomenal artist."
Meanwhile, Kid Cudi — who revealed that he'll use his Vma performance to "celebrate" last year's house turntablist, the late DJ Am — said he looks forward to working with his "homie" Wale. "Wale is one of those innovative artists," he said. "This is like a big deal, »

When Kid Cudi performs with Wale and the go-go group Ucb, the Vma house band, at Sunday's awards show, he will take some time out to remember 2008 house-band member DJ Am, who died unexpectedly last month.
"DJ Am was a good homie of mine, so we're going to do a little something for him," the Vma-nominated rapper told MTV News. "We doing this for Am. He had so much love."
For Cudi's time at the Video Music Awards, he plans to make sure his party is all about Am. "We're going to be celebrating his life," he said. "You know what I mean? It's going to be a great night, and I don't know about everybody else, but I'm celebrating the »

All of the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards performers, presenters, nominees and guests are getting ready for a big weekend in New York City, full of parties, events and of course the big show itself. But the guy who will perhaps be the busiest star in the little more than 72 hours leading up to Sunday night is Wale. The Washington, D.C. rapper will be taking the helm on Sunday as the head of the house band. He'll be backed up by the fantastically funky group Ucb and joined by a number of other groups (including 3Oh!3). But that means he'll have to sit in and rehearse with Pitbull, 3Oh!3 and Solange Knowles in order to deliver a top-shelf performance on Sunday. But he's also been busy handicapping the contests, taking trivia quizzes and delivering insight on some of today's biggest stars. For example, he's got very flattering words to say about collaborator Lady Gaga. »

New York — "This one's for the good people who are setting up the show for MTV!" Wale announced during rehearsals on Thursday (September 10). "We're gonna have some fun now, because you guys could use some good music."
And with that, he launched into a cracking version of his hit "Chillin' " backed by his group, the fabulously funky Ucb; the team will be serving as the house band for the VMAs on Sunday. And the stagehands hammering away on the Video Music Awards' set bobbed their heads. It seems like Wale's already got this house band gig down.
But, of course, practice makes perfect, and, over the course of 90 or so minutes, Wale and Ucb worked their way through their presumptive set for Sunday night, a »
