So:
A few weeks ago my friend and I got fabulous, front-row tickets to an evening performance of "Gaslight" starring Miss Pike, in London. What can I say? Her acting was flawless - so subtle and graceful. She was menacing and profound at the same time. Such a great play, enormously entertaining, and we were right there in the front to take in every moment.
Now, after the show, we really hoped to meet Rosamund. A few people (four or so) were gathered outside the stage door. We thought we would definitely be able to say hi with only a few people around. Then we started to wait. VIP guests (friends of hers, it seemed) went inside and we could see Rosamund through the window saying hello to them on the landing in front of her dressing room. She was already changed, so we figured it would only be a matter of minutes before she would come outside to leave with her friends. But, no, we waited for over an hour. Then we realized they were having their own little party on the second floor in her dressing room, fully aware of us (her friends looked outside several times). Later, one of the guys with us actually called up to the window, telling them we were waiting and it was getting late. Rosamund then appeared at the window and said a simple, quite unfriendly "Hello", turned around and disappeared. We waited a while longer. Then the guy came out and walked up the street. The next image I will never forget: Rosamund and the girl (the other friend) creeping up the stairs, ducking, and turning around. She looked me right in the eye through the window and ran off. We realized the guy fetched her car and was taking it around to the other side of the theatre, while Rosamund was running out a different exit.
We walked around the theatre building and, yup, there she was, running across the road, saying goodbye to the friends and getting into her car. The friends walked past us, and we even asked them why she was acting like that, escaping the enormous crowd of six, humble and devoted fans. They shrugged. Simply shrugged and walked away.
I lost all respect for Rosamund, as a person, after this incident. I still cannot believe how RUDE her behaviour was. Now, look, don't get me wrong: It is her full right to decide whether or not she wants to greet the fans. But, in that case, SOMEONE should've told us that she wasn't coming out that night or she has another engagement, whatever. That would've been polite. That would've stopped us from standing outside for over an hour. That's the LEAST they could've done.
Sorry, Miss Pike, you lost my respect. I still think she's a genuinely fine actress, but someone has to teach this Oxford graduate some much needed, basic manners. Six people were too many for her? Poor girl: if she doesn't appreciate the few people who WANT to meet her and admire her, then I see a dark and unfortunate future and career ahead of her. This attitude is such a pity, since her career is only just taking off.
