Worth Watching - Aug 23: English Transporter 3 Teaser Trailer

23 August 2008 7:02 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

Lionsgate has just released the official Us version of the Transporter 3 teaser trailer. It is nearly identical to the French version we saw way back in early June, but because it still kicks ass and because I thought some people might enjoying watch it all over again, I decided to still feature it today. As I mentioned with the poster, I pretty much have to call anything that Jason Statham is in "badass" because he truly is a badass actor. So with that being said, do be sure to check out this badass teaser trailer. I've never been this excited in the Transporter films, but for some odd reason I'm pretty damn excited to see Statham return again as delivery man Frank Martin. Even without Louis Leterrier driving this one, it still looks great. Thanks to our friends at IGN for debuting this trailer for us to sit back

'Superman' Indeed Going to Be Rebooted

22 August 2008 9:11 PM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

After sparking a major question of where they are going to bring the next "Superman" movie, Warner Bros. Pictures have finally confirmed to start the project right from the scratch once again meaning that they are going to reboot the franchise. The confirmation of the remake has been offered by Warner Bros. Pictures Group President Jeff Robinov to Wall Street Journal.

In Wall Street's recent article, Robinov stated that the decision to reintroduce the 'man of steel' has to be taken after the considerable failure of "Superman Returns". "Superman [Returns] didn't quite work as a film in the way that we wanted it to," Robinov said. "It didn't position the character the way he needed to be positioned. Had Superman worked in 2006, we would have had a movie for Christmas of this year or 2009. But now the plan is just to reintroduce Superman without regard to a Batman and Superman movie at all.

Zak Penn Writing The Argonauts

12 August 2008 7:35 AM, PDT | From Filmonic.com | See recent Filmonic news

X-Men: The Last Stand and The Incredible Hulk writer Zak Penn is writing and will produce The Argonauts for 20th Century Fox, according to Variety. This is yet another Greek mythology film that joins Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans, War of Gods, Brett Ratner's God of War, Peter Berg's Hercules movie and a 300 sequel. All of which are currently in development.

The Argonauts is based on Penn’s original take on the classic Greek tale. In Greek mythology…

Screenwriter Zak Penn Reviving The Argonauts for Fox

12 August 2008 5:25 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

X-Men and Incredible Hulk screenwriter Zak Penn is the latest to dabble in the sword-and-sandal genre. Although he's still working on The Avengers for Marvel, Penn has been hired by Fox to put together a screenplay titled The Argonauts. The story is based on a Penn's original retelling of the classic Greek tale about the Argonauts, a band of heroic sailors that accompanied Jason to Colchis before the Trojan War. Most may recognize the name from the 1963 film Jason and the Argonauts, although the name Argonauts actually comes from their ship, the Argo. Penn is both writing and producing alongside of John Davis (Eragon, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem). Is the return of the sword-and-sandal trend more than a fad? As the article on Variety points out, there are numerous Hollywood sword-and-sandal projects currently in development, the obvious impact of the huge success of 300 last year. From Louis Leterrier's

Avengers Cast “Confirmed,” Iron Man 2 to Intro New Avenger

24 July 2008 8:30 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

According to Den of Geek, Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier has been letting all the beans spill from Marvel’s bag of tricks concerning the cast of the Avengers movie, as well as the current state of Iron Man 2. Is the Frenchman giving us fact, or just more fiction? I’ll let you be the judge of that.

The DoG source, who spoke to Leterrier during Marvel Night at the Grand Rex in Paris earlier this month, states that the director confirmed to him that Iron Man 2 is currently underway, with a script being written by director Jon Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr. If that’s true, it’s a relief to know that after all those rumors of major turmoil behind the scenes over at Marvel, Ol’ Shell-head is back safe in the hands of the men who made him a hit in the first place. 'Hulk' Sequel Appears Unlikely

21 July 2008 1:36 AM, PDT | From syfyportal.com | See recent syfyportal news

It has made $129.9 million so far in domestic box office dollars, but that doesn't seem to be enough for Marvel to revisit the Hulk again in the future outside of an Avengers movie. Director Louis Leterrier, who was promoting "The Incredible Hulk" in his home country of France over the weekend, told reporters that the poor box office take of "Hulk" made it very unlikely there would be another sequel. So far, the film has not pulled in enough money to break even with its estimated $150 million budget, and there was some question on whether or not Ed Norton would return for a sequel. At the same time, Leterrier said potential story ideas were scarce because there were only so many times one could dip into the "anger management issues" well. That would make Hulk perfect for an Avengers ...

Louis Leterrier Explains How He Took on Clash of the Titans

15 July 2008 11:45 AM, PDT | From firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news

When the Clash of the Titans remake was first announced, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen director Stephen Norrington was attached. Thankfully about a month ago we announced that Incredible Hulk director Louis Leterrier would be replace Norrington. Since that announcement about Leterrier and since seeing Hulk, I've become increasingly excited for this remake. Clash of the Titans is one of my great childhood memories and a personal favorite and it's one of the few films that could use a well-done remake. For the first time since Leterrier was announced as the new director, he chimes in on his thoughts and plans for the film. The best part of the interview, however, is the story about how he got the gig straight from Norrington and his hopes for the sequel. The French website EcranLarge.com has posted an interview with Leterrier where he talks about the film. First things first, when asked

'Incredible Hulk' unlikely to get sequel

9 July 2008 3:30 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

Marvel's latest comic book film The Incredible Hulk is unlikely to get a sequel, says Reuters. The Louis Leterrier-directed movie has so far grossed similar box office numbers to Ang Lee's Hulk, which was considered a commercial flop on its 2003 release. Despite taking a more action-oriented approach to the character, The Incredible Hulk has accumulated $$125 million at the Us box office after a month on release. Its predecessor finished its theatre run with $$132 million. A Marvel insider said: "We're happy with the financial results, even if they [only] reach the first film's levels. Having a sequel is not the definition (more)

Clash Of The Titans Remake To Be Rated R?

29 June 2008 10:12 AM, PDT | From ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news

When I first joined Screen Rant the first article that I ever wrote was a story on Clash of the Titans, a remake of the 1981 Ray Harryhausen-produced Harry Hamlin-starrer. Back in those days Stephen Norrington (Blade) was the man behind the mega-phone, however things in Hollywood are always fluid - so he has dropped out only to be replaced by The Incredible Hulk’s Louis Leterrier.

Hold it, hold it - that’s not even the big news, no sirree. The big news is that the film has now been fast-tracked by Warner Bros.

The reason?

Lawrence Kasdan’s script kicks all sort of butt.

So what makes this script so fantastic that makes the studio smell the money?

Well, for starters - it’s an R-rated epic.

And yes, you read that right.

Remember, it was only recently that studios were afraid to make R-rated films -

Clash of the Titans Vs. War of the Gods!

27 June 2008 12:09 AM, PDT | From DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news

The remake of Clash of the Titans is still a go, no matter how much voodoo and black/white magic I dabble in to make it go away. Damn you, forces of darkness, why won’t you do my bidding?

Variety reports this morning that Clash now has some competition in the realm of big-budget Greek mythology green screen movies: War of the Gods, which has Tarsem (The Cell, The Fall) Singh on board to direct. Incredible Hulk helmer Louis Leterrier is attached to the Clash remake, so perhaps the two could just fight it out Thunderdome-style?

Relativity Media’s War of the Gods is set in ancient Greece (duh) and tells of a young warrior who leads his men against an evil so great, it pits man against demons and titans. Sign me up! Warner Bros.' Clash of the Titans is, of course, about Perseus, son of Zeus,

Hulk Director 'Strays' to Radioactive City

16 June 2008 11:54 AM, PDT | From bloody-disgusting.com | See recent Bloody-Disgusting.com news

Only time will tell how much "horror" this project carriers, but either way Louis Leterrier, whose Incredible Hulk was the weekend's boxoffice champ, is negotiations to develop and direct Strays, an eco action thriller written by Michael Ross, at Summit. In "Strays," a group of young consultants on a business trip to Russia mysteriously wake up in an abandoned and radioactive city and fight to survive the deadly obstacles in between them and safety. Leterrier's other credits include the Jason Statham action movies "The Transporter" and it's sequel plus the Jet Li actionner "Unleashed." He is repped by Endeavor and Management 360. Gersh-repped Ross wrote Fox Atomic's horror movie Turistas and most recently worked on the Near Dark remake for Rogue and Platinum Dunes.

Louis Leterrier to helm ‘Strays’

16 June 2008 10:53 AM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

French director Louis Leterrier’s is in talks to direct “Strays,” an action thriller for Summit Entertainment, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Michael Ross, whose credits include “Turistas,” the film centers on a group of consultants who wake up in an abandoned and radioactive city, where they have to cope with several obstacles in order to survive.

Leterrier also directed Marvel’s reboot “The Incredible Hulk,” which stormed the North American box office this weekend after receiving critical acclaim. He also helmed “Danny the Dog” and the first two “Transporter” flicks.

Although we don’t really know much about it, “Strays” sounds like a cool project at this stage. Leterrier proved he’s a dab hand at directing action flicks, and I’m excited to see where his career will take him.
