At a release party for the DVD, in stores this Tuesday, Parker and creator Michael Patrick King confirmed the follow-up to Fox News. He's writing the screenplay this fall, and Parker and Kim Cattrall, who was the major stumbling block for the first film getting off the ground, say they're both excited to read the new script.

Candace Bushnell, who wrote the original novel, says she's hard at work on two new books based on the young Carrie Bradshaw. Uh-huh: We're getting Sex and the City prequels, at least in print. When pressed on who should play Carries, Bushnell mentioned Miley Cyrus, although that seemed like she was just drawing a name out of a hat. The Carrie Years, which is what they series would be called,

Sex And The City Sequel Confirmed

19 September 2008 2:47 PM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

It's no secret that Warner Bros. has been interested in doing a Sex and the City sequel, almost since the first moment those hefty, estrogen-powered box office receipts started rolling in. Now it looks like their interest has turned into certainty, and they're doing not just a sequel, but maybe sequels. The news comes straight from the mouths of Sex helmer Michael Patrick King and his star Sarah Jessica Parker. Fox News caught them at a DVD release party, where they confirmed that a sequel was happening. In fact, King is already on his way to start writing it. King also joked that he's thinking of doing an animated version as well, while author Candace Bushnell revealed, less jokingly, that she's working on writing a Sex and the City prequel. Sex and the City: The College Years? I'd wager that it's only a matter of time before that becomes a

Parker Hopeful For Sex And The City Sequel

19 September 2008 12:02 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker has sent devoted Sex And The City fans into a frenzy of anticipation after she admitted a sequel to the movie has not been ruled out.

Fans of the show have been clamouring to see the fashionable foursome make a return to the big screen - after the first feature film stormed international box offices, grossing more than $391 million (GBP211.4million) since its May release.

And the actress, who played Carrie Bradshaw in the hit TV series, admits a sequel to the movie is on the cards - if producers can come up with a red-hot story.

Parker tells Usmagazine.com she and writer Michael Patrick King will "have that conversation (about a sequel) sooner rather than later".

She adds: "It's all about the story. If we can't tell a story that's really worthy of an audience, then we won't do it.

"We've been really lucky at this point. We've been in people's good graces for a long time, and we take that very seriously. So that's the biggest challenge, the story."

11 September 2008 1:05 AM, PDT | From Aceshowbiz | See recent Aceshowbiz news

Reported to be in negotiation stage, a sequel to "Sex and the City" seems to be getting closer to happen. Talking to Ew's Insider Blog, writer/director Michael Patrick King speaks out that he still thinks that a follow-up story is possible to be made saying, "It doesn't feel done to me at all. It feels like it generated a whole new burst of enthusiasm for these characters."

He further adds, "I thought if I could come up with a really fun, worthy story it would certainly be a great chance to do it again." When asked further about ideas he has for the sequel, he refuses to give out any hints stating, "If I tipped my head right now, ideas would come pouring out." Nevertheless, he suggests that it may be coming out in summer. "It's always nice to see the girls in the summer," so claimed the 53-year-old.

Sex And The City Heading To London?

9 September 2008 8:56 AM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Sex And The City star Chris Noth wants the sequel to the hit movie to be filmed in London.

The film version of the popular TV show hit the big screen earlier this year and there are already rumours that movie bosses are planning a follow-up.

And Noth - who plays Carrie Bradshaw's love interest Mr Big - insists that the New York-based show would translate well if it moved to London for a sequel.

He says, "We are doing a sequel right here in London. I don't know, I'm just kidding, it's up to the writer, Michael Patrick King.

"He has some great ideas. I think it would be a great place to make it. If Woody Allen can make films in London, why can't we?

"Maybe Carrie and Mr Big could take their honeymoon here, maybe his business could move here or could bring him here and they could settle down."

Get ready for the ‘Sex and the City’ sequel!

12 July 2008 9:16 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Are you ready for more “Sex and the City” action? Now that Michael King Patrick’s big-screen adaptation of the popular TV series has reached a domestic total of $146 million, it’s about time to officially announce the plans for a sequel.

According to Entertainment Weekly, HBO has confirmed that a follow-up to this year’s summer chick flick is already in early developmental stages.

A script does not yet exist at this stage, but Warner Bros. is apparently very eager to start working on the project as soon as possible.

There you have it. All this of course isn’t exactly a surprise, but I sincerely think we’ve had enough of “Sex and the City” for a while.

What do you guys think? Is a sequel really a good idea? And do you really care what happens to Carrie and co. next? Sound off below.

Kung Fu Panda Drop Kicks the Competition

9 June 2008 11:55 AM, PDT | From MovieMaker.com | See recent Movie Maker news

Seems like all those promos must have paid off—first at Cannes, then the TV commercial onslaught—as Kung Fu Panda kicked some serious butt at the box office over the weekend, out-grossing Adam Sandler's new film, You Don't Mess With the Zohan, by 50 percent. The animated action flick, featuring the voices of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Dustin Hoffman and Jackie Chan, took in $60 million over the weekend—while Zohan earned $40 million. Harrison Ford and Shia Labeouf's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull held strong in the number three position with $22.8 million, while last year's surprise topper, Michael Patrick King's Sex and the City, saw a more than 62 percent decline in ticket sales, with a weekend total of $21.3 million.

Movie Reviews: Sex And The City (2)

30 May 2008 10:34 AM, PDT | From Studio Briefing | See recent Studio Briefing news

Los Angeles Times critic Carina Chocano observes in her review of Sex and the City that it's difficult to write about it in the face of charges of "gender bias" directed at some critics. Nevertheless she praises co-executive producer Michael Patrick King, who wrote and directed the movie, for doing "some brave, surprising things with it, mining territory that's been all but abandoned by Hollywood." She continues: "For a film that delights in indulging in frivolity at every possible turn, it examines subjects that most movies don't dare graze for their terrifying seriousness. And when it does, the movie handles them with surprising grace, wit and maturity. In other words, it's a movie for grown-ups of all ages." Claudia Puig in Usa Today calls it "undeniably satisfying." Jessica Reeves in the Chicago Tribune describes it as "witty, effervescent and unexpectedly thoughtful." But Roger Ebert's review in the Chicago Sun-Times veers 180 degrees in the opposite direction. "I am not the person to review this movie," he begins. It ends this way: "This is probably the exact Sex and the City film that fans of the TV series are lusting for, and it may do $50 million on its opening weekend. I know some nurses who are going to smuggle flasks of Cosmopolitans into the theater on opening night, and have a Gal Party. 'Do you think that's a good idea?' one of them asked me. 'Two flasks,' I said." Not all the criticism is gender defined, however. While Peter Howell in the Toronto Star writes, "It's gratifying to report that ... there are some serious life issues being worked on, in between the heavy breathing and rampant consumerism," Manohla Dargis in the New York Times concludes: "There is something depressingly stunted about this movie; something desperate too."

Kristin Davis Says She's No Charlotte York

Once and for all separating fact from fiction, Kristin Davis has made it clear that unlike her marriage obsessed Sex and the City character Charlotte York, she is happy being single. "[In my twenties], I thought I'd never get married. I guess I was right!” Davis laughed as she addressed a crowd at the Skyy Vodka screening of the movie in Hollywood on Thursday. "I grew up in the South so all everyone talked about was marriage," said the actress, who dressed very much like her sophisticated Upper East Side fictional counterpart in sky-high Christian Louboutin shoes and a sparkling silver and black cocktail dress.

Sex And The City

29 May 2008 2:39 PM, PDT | From avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news

Anyone who has an opinion about Sex And The City, positive or negative, is unlikely to be swayed in a different direction by the TV series' big-screen adaptation. Those who approach it as a mere curiosity may be charmed by what's essentially a you-go-girl romantic comedy with a high-octane wardrobe and a few explicit sex scenes, but they're unlikely to convert to the cult of Carrie Bradshaw. Michael Patrick King, the driving creative force behind the series and film, has fashioned a movie tailored specifically for fans; while it serves as a capable and enjoyable continuation of the departed HBO favorite, beyond a supercharged production budget (the wardrobe alone could probably finance a handful of indies), it makes little effort to move beyond its small-screen milieu. The movie picks up three years after the series ended, catching up any latecomers via clips from the series and that familiar...

Early Tracking: Carrie Bradshaw and Friends Ready to Flex Their Box Office Muscles! 'Sex and the City' Appears Headed for $30M Opening!

This weekend, there is one for the girls at America's multiplexes as Warner Bros. rolls out its apparently long-awaited movie version of Sex and the City. The HBO series the movie is based on, which debuted in the late 1990s and ended its run in 2004, is a surefire hit with women. I saw an advance screening a few weeks back, and, although I will not spoil any of the surprises, it will be a completely satisfying experience for anyone who is a fan of the show. The intentions of writer-director Michael Patrick King are modest. Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte (Kristen Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) are exactly who you remember them to be. The actresses slip on the characters like a comfortable pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes (if there is such a thing), and each character gets a nice little story arc.

Jennifer Hudson was cast in the new Sex And The City movie to appeal to young, black viewers, Sarah Jessica Parker has said.

Parker, who reprises her role as Carrie Bradshaw, said writer/director Michael Patrick King wanted the Oscar winner to cater for two demographics in the film's audience.

Hudson, a former American Idol finalist, plays Carrie's assistant Louise in the big screen adaptation of the Us TV show.

Parker is quoted as saying: "First of all we needed to have a 20-year-old in this movie; we really have to remember that there is a significant audience . . .

Parker: 'Hudson Gives Sex A Young, Black Face'

19 May 2008 6:25 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson was added to the cast of Sex And The City for the cult TV show's movie adaptation so there would be a young black face in the mix.

Sarah Jessica Parker reveals director Michael Patrick King was very keen to sign Hudson up to play Carrie Bradshaw's assistant in the much-anticipated new film - because she could serve two huge areas of Sex And The City's audience.

She explains, "First of all we needed to have a 20-year-old in this movie; we really have to remember that there is a significant audience now that are very, very young.

"It's a great way of reminding people who Carrie was when she came to New York; what was New York, what did it mean to her...And African-American women and women of colour have been a big part of our audience for a long time (and) we really haven't been responsible to them."

And Parker couldn't imagine a better onscreen assistant for her Bradshaw: "She is especially lovely in this movie... She is remarkably beautiful and she's probably about eight inches taller than I am and she is a presence."

Cattrall Worried She Couldn't Be Sexy At 50

15 May 2008 6:23 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Actress Kim Cattrall dreaded returning to the set of Sex And The City for the TV show's movie adaptation - because she feared that, at 50, she wouldn't be sexy enough.

The 51-year-old actress was blamed for causing delays in the movie version of the hit TV series, reportedly demanding more money and creative control over the project.

But Cattrall admits it was, in fact, her lack of confidence as an aging Hollywood star that prevented her from immediately signing on to the project.

She needed reassurances from director Michael Patrick King before signing on to play sex siren Samantha Jones again.

She says, "I was quite nervous because it had been four years and I had turned 50. We did camera tests because all of us (cast) have aged. I worried about being sexy enough again.

"I said to Michael, `How can we do this? I want to look great and not feel self-conscious.' And he always said, `We are going to take care of you.'"
