Appeared on Broadway in the US premier of "Closer" by Patrick Marber, 1999.

(March 1998): Played Sally Bowles in "Cabaret", the musical by Joe Masteroff, John Kander, Fred Ebb and Christopher Isherwood - Kit Kat Klub, New York City, USA - for which she received the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.

Appeared on Broadway in Eugene O'Neill's "Anna Christie" with Liam Neeson in 1993, for which they were both nominated for a Tony Award.

Under the direction of Trevor Nunn she appeared at London's Almeida Theatre's first production following their refurbishment, as Ellida in Ibsen's "The Lady From the Sea" in May 2003. This was a role that Richarson's mother, Vanessa Redgrave, played 25 years ago.

(April 2005): Played Blanche DuBois in "A Streetcar Named Desire" by Tennessee Williams (Studio 54, New York City, New York, USA).

Played Tracey in the musical "High Society" - Leicester Haymarket Theatre/ Victoria Palace Theatre, London (1986-7).

In 1983 she appeared in three plays at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds: "On The Razzle" by Tom Stoppard, "Top Girls" by Caryl Churchill and "Charley's Auny" by Brandon Thomas.
