Pierre Morel in talks to helm ‘Hunter-Killer’

1 October 2008 3:40 PM, PDT | From screeninglog.com | See recent screeninglog news

Filmmaker Pierre Morel is in negotiations to direct Relativity Media’s “Hunter-Killer,” a script written by producer Arne Schmidt, according to Variety.

The trade says Schmidt, who produced “We Were Soldiers” and “xXx,” submitted the script under the pseudonym Ed Arnett.

Based on the novel “Firing Point” by Don Keith and George Wallace, the plot follows an American sub commander and a Navy Seal team that head out to protect the Russian president and stop a ruthless admiral from executing a coup.

Morel’s directing credits include “Taken” and “Banlieue 13.” He also worked as cinematographer on “War,” “Danny the Dog” and “The Transporter.”

Morel is currently in France shooting “From Paris With Love,” a thriller starring John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

tMF Top 50 Hottest Young Actors- The Top 10

30 September 2008 10:08 AM, PDT | From The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news

Sheer acting talent and international appeal. That's what matter the most in our top 50 young actors list. The same applies in this updated rankings, but let me just add a few equally important points- The most talented young actors are those who relish doing difficult and risky roles and look forward working with the best filmmakers. tMF dislikes young actors who talk too much and will do just about anything to stay in the limelight. Let the performance speak for itself. Age Limit- How young is young? The last time I checked, we've decided not to include Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, James Franco and Cillian Murphy because of their age. Now as I look at the previous top 10, I see some favorites that I have to let go... I mean, Gael Garcia Bernal is not that young anymore, right? The roles he used to play in Amores Perros and Y Tu Mama

Travolta, Rhys-Myers Heading To Paris

25 September 2008 8:04 AM, PDT | From cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news

Is John Travolta one of those American celebrities who isn't quite so popular anymore at home, but is really big in France? That might explain how he's all of a sudden shooting a thriller in France, with Luc Besson's EuropaCorp producing.<BR Variety reported today that Travolta and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers will star in From Paris With Love, which is not a James Bond remake or parody as far as we can tell. Pierre Morel is directing the story of an embassy worker and an American secret agent who suddenly wind up working together on a high-risk mission in Paris. Weirdly, the movie is shooting for nearly 11 weeks in Paris-- that's almost three months!-- but is only budgeted at $55 million, which means either someone is taking a huge pay cut or the special effects will be subpar. Or hey, maybe both! You just never know when Travolta's involved.

Travolta and Besson

25 September 2008 3:09 AM, PDT | From JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news

John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers will star in FROM PARIS WITH LOVE for director Pierre Morel (TAKEN). The screenplay comes courtesy of Luc Besson and Adi Hasak, and revolves around a young embassy worker and an American secret agent who cross paths while working on a high-risk mission in Paris. Of course there's nothing in the description of the 'young embassy worker' to suggest he has devil eyes, but I think it would be a safe assumption to take that Rhys-Meyers will be on that role...

tMF Controversial: Gay roles for "real men" - Who's afraid of playing gay?

3 September 2008 2:01 PM, PDT | From The Movie Fanatic | See recent The Movie Fanatic news

I don't see what all the fuss is about playing gay characters. When I did Y Tu Mama Tambien, I was asked, 'Don't you worry about what people will say to you in the street?' It seemed like it was such a huge deal. Why would it be an issue for me? I think it is a very American thing. In Mexico, no one has given me any s**t for playing gay roles, for playing a transvestite, whatever. They don't confuse the actor with the role. I mean, they don't think Al Pacino's a cop! That's awesome actor Gael Garcia Bernal (http://themovie-fanatic.com/spotlights/stars/gaelgarciabernal/) talking. Man, he certainly has balls! Many young actors nowadays would rather keep mum or ignore offers to play gay, and why shouldn't they? Aside from the hungry press that can put the bad news within minutes, it could ruin their careers permanently.

Meyers' Fitness Reigns On TV Show

Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers is forbidden to put on weight for his role as the famously fat King Henry VIII in hit TV drama The Tudors.

Meyers - hailed as one of Hollywood's most handsome leading men - has played the British monarch since the show began last year.

But bosses insist they have no plans to order the actor to pile on the pounds.

Executive producer Morgan O'Sullivan says: "We still want him to be appealing. We don't want to destroy his good looks. An exact portrayal of Henry is not a factor that we think is important."

Jonathan Rhys Meyers was forced to halt filming on Match Point while kissing co-star Scarlett Johansson - so that he could have a shave.

Actor Meyers, who played Johansson's lover in the 2005 Woody Allen-directed drama, held up production while filming an intimate scene so that he could de-fuzz.

Johansson says, "Kissing him wasn't that bad, but he did have to stop and shave in the middle of a scene, even though he'd shaved that morning. The man has really got some serious beard on him."

Feature: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (in Woody Allen's Movies)

By Matt Singer

As far back as last February, the press began speculating about a supposed lesbian tryst between the stars of Woody Allen's new film "Vicky Christina Barcelona." Under a headline reading "Sapphic Steam," the New York Post's Page Six announced that they'd learned from an anonymous source that the scene between Scarlett Johansson and Penélope Cruz was "extremely erotic" and that when the film reached theaters audiences would "be blown away and even shocked." Various news agencies picked up the story. Some even distorted it further; one website assured its readers in no uncertain terms that "Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz will have lesbian sex in Woody Allen's new film," as if the actresses were bypassing any notion of dramatic pretense and doing the scene purely for their own sexual gratification.

Even after "Vicky Christina" played the Cannes Film Festival last May, rumors of the combustible chemistry between the stars continued,

Moonlight Forever In My Heart

Alex O’Loughlin had been working as an actor long before I became aware of him. He was born in Australia and started his acting career there with movies such as "The Oyster Farmer," "Feed" and "The Invisible". He also did the Australian miniseries "The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant" playing her husband. Alex made his way to the American shores in the 6th season of FX’s "The Shield" as a new member of the strike team, "The Holiday" starring Kate Winslet and Jude Law in 2006 and the 2007 movie "August Rush" with Jonathan Rhys-Meyers and Keri Russell. But I found Alex on CBS’ "Moonlight". When I saw the ads for "Moonlight" in September of 2007, I knew I would watch because Alex caught my attention and I can’t resist a vampire story! At its heart, "Moonlight" was about drama, romance and adventure. As we were seeing the world through his eyes,

Meyers Sympathises With Princes

11 August 2008 12:10 PM, PDT | From wenn.com | See recent WENN news

Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers sympathises with the plight of British royals Princes William and Harry - because they are just normal boys in the public eye.

The Mission: Impossible III star insists that the young princes have a tough life because they suffer the intrusion of the paparazzi and the media.

And Meyers is convinced that unlike celebrities, William, 26, and Harry, 23, will never be able to step out of the public eye.

He says, "Look at Prince William and Harry. I'm always reading about Prince Harry, he's getting drunk, he's kissing girls, he's falling out of nightclubs at five o'clock in the morning.

"Well, so? He's doing the same thing as every other 22 or 23-year-old out there. But he can't because he's not a normal human being - he's a demi-god because he's a royal."
