Pierre Morel, director of the wonderful guilty pleasure that is Taken, has signed on to direct Signals, a thriller that’s said to be in the same vein as Three Days Of The Condor. It won’t be the Frenchman’s follow-up to the hugely enjoyable Liam Neeson action thriller, which grossed $224 million globally. That’s From Paris With Love, an actioner starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Travolta, which hits early next year.Since Taken took over the world, though, Morel has attached himself to a Tokyo-set thriller for Paramount, and Universal’s Pursuit. Whether Signals has jumped ahead in the queue remains unclear at this time. But the dude clearly has a thing for one-word titles.Richard Potter and Matthew Stravitz wrote the screenplay for Signals, the story of which remains under wraps for now. Media Rights Capital is stumping up the cash for the flick. »

Gossip Girl: The CW showed a sneak peek of Leighton Meester's new video "Somebody to Love" last night, and we have so many questions: When did "L" get so sun-scorchingly hot? What would Blair say about such blatant sexuality in the back of a limo? (Oh wait, she's done worse in a limo with Chuck.) And we know in real life Leighton is gorgeous and famous and cool and dating Sebastian Stan (Carter Baizen), so how are we to believe she can't find "somebody to love"? Discuss! The Tudors: According to Liz Smith, Jonathan Rhys Meyers will finally start looking old, fat and debauched as Henry VIII this season on The Tudors. Not everyone gets along with Olivia Palermo, including former Diane von Fürstenberg co-worker Whitney Port and current Elle colleague Erin Kaplan. Fellow mean girl Kelly Cutrone, Port's boss on "The City," seems to understand Olivia's iciness — but that doesn't mean she couldn't take her in a catfight.
"Olivia Palermo, well, I don't know if I'll be crossing paths with her," she told MTV News. "If I did, I think I would win."
Cutrone said Port's frienemy is surprisingly sensitive. "Have I met her? Yes, I have met her. What is my feeling about her? I haven't hung out with her lately," Cutrone said. "I think she is slightly misunderstood. But I think that she's also a very sensitive person that may escalate at times."
Regardless of Palermo's good or bad attributes, »

Lauren Conrad’s former boss Kelly Cutrone has a suggestion on who should play her in “The Hills” star upcoming movie – Irish actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers. In Conrad’s book “L.A. Candy,” which is loosely based on the MTV star’s life, the Kelly Cutrone character is the fictional tough-as-nails PR boss Fiona Chen. Now that “L.A. Candy” is being made into a movie, Conrad needs someone to portray the People’s Revolution founder on the big screen. “What about Jonathan Rhys Meyers? That could be really good crossover role for him," Cutrone suggested to MTV News. The fashion icon, who is now featured in “The Hills” spinoff “The City,” has a few runner-ups in mind as well. "They would have to have black hair — they would have to be slightly on the mean side. I would like Cher to play me," she said. "I think that would be really great. »

Lauren Conrad once joked she'd like to see friend Lo Bosworth star in the movie adaptation of her novel "L.A. Candy," but recently told us she's taking it slow with the casting process. Although Stephanie Pratt has helpfully suggested that Queen Latifah play her.) Now, Conrad's former boss, current "City" star and People's Revolution head honcho Kelly Cutrone imagines who should play her character (tough-as-nails PR boss Fiona Chen) in the flick.
"What about Jonathan Rhys Meyers? That could be really good crossover role for him," she joked to MTV News.
"They would have to have black hair — they would have to be slightly on the mean side. I would like Cher to play me," she proposed. "I think that would be really great. »

Jonathan Rhys Meyers loves playing Henry VIII, but is certainly not in love with his character’s diet. The Irish actor and “Tudors” star revealed the king’s “deathly” food choices. "If you look at the Tudor diet, I'm surprised anyone lasted longer than six months,” he told Canada’s Edmonton Sun. While the actors on the set of the hit Showtime series nosh on fruit and veggies, their 16th century English “Tudors” characters opt for less healthy meals. For the king, Rhys Meyers explained, "They would take a chicken, tear the top off, giblets on the top, and they would take giblets from the bottom, they would take the throat, and the head, and the feet, and they would clip the wings, and they would cook those. The breast would go to the poor." But while the wealthy wined and dined on fattening foods, the poor were known to be healthier and live longer. »

Given recent comments from Sir Ian McKellen about his involvement (or lack thereof) in the upcoming "X-Men Origins: Magneto" film from Fox, it's time to face the inevitable—Magneto is going to be recast. This was already a virtual certainty due to the story's purported focus on the Master of Magnetism's more youthful days, but McKellen's words confirm the need for a new, younger actor.
Recasting Magneto is difficult for a number of reasons. For one, McKellen already played him so expertly that an actor of his quality is absolutely essential—and not only that, but it'd be a good idea to find someone who looks like they could age into McKellen's likeness, which is very tricky. For that reason, I think it's more important to focus on finding an excellent, fitting actor for the role, rather than selecting an actor based on his likeness to McKellen.
When and if "X-Men Origins: Magneto" gets underway, »

Who says Uma Thurman can’t be funny?
Thurman, who just wrapped up playing Medusa in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, has joined the cast of Ceremony, a romantic comedy from Nala Films. She will play a Milf (sigh) on the verge of holy matrimony but is courted by a younger man (Michael Angarano).

After watching the "gay exorcism" kid on Tyra, aren't you ready to turn off the TV and see what's going on at the movies? Heaven knows, I am!
The week's big opener is, of course, the remake of Fame, featuring a cast of talented youngsters that's way more shiny, happy and generally well-scrubbed than their grittier 1980 counterparts.
That would be Ok if this new movie were a tenth as engaging or well-written as the first one, but alas, it ain't. Even the few standout musical numbers aren't rousing enough to put over the rest of this lead balloon. (Read AfterElton.com's review here.)
That we've gone from the New York City High School of Performing Arts apparently having but one gay student (yeah, right) in '80 to one exceedingly gay-vague dancer boy doesn't feel like all that much progress, either.
And how can you put Kelsey Grammer and Bebe Neuwirth, »

From Paris With Love Director: Pierre Morel Cast: John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Melissa Mars Opening: 5 February 2010 Distributor: Lionsgate Jonathan Rhys Meyers is a greenhorn at the U.S. Ambassador's office, and John Travolta is a (possibly crooked) secret agent. The movie algebra on this one is pretty transparent: take the inverse of Training Day, subtract any modicum of authenticity, and add as many explosions as possible. The bouncing brass and rakish shuffle of the soundtrack, the Bond-aping title, and the references to The Transporter strongly suggest that this film is all shot, no powder. Travolta plays what might… »

Following John Travolta’s film career is like watching a screaming child on a roller coaster. He looks like he’s having a lot of fun, but after a while, you begin to realize he’s just screaming to get your attention. We all remember when he was having fun in Grease, and then years later when he wasn’t in Battlefield Earth.
On that note, a new trailer for From Paris With Love has hit the webs and looks to be a bit of everything. There’s the girl-candy Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, there’s fight scenes for the dudes, explosions for the kids, and lots of innuendo for people who like that kind of thing. And then there’s John Travolta, who for some reason looks quite a lot like Denzel Washington. Could it be that this role was originally meant for Denzel and Travolta has that good of an agent? »
