Death at a Funeral Trailer

5 December 2009 4:56 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The unnecessary and unwanted remake of the great 2007 British Comedy Death at a Funeral is coming out in a matter of months and the first official trailer for the movie was recently released online.

Frank Oz directed the British version which starred Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice, Frost/Nixon) as the main character. This remake, or re-enactment as I would call it, is brought to us by (and stars) Chris Rock.

In an age when moviegoers are drowning in remakes, reboots and re-imaginings of established properties and brands, this movie sadly only comes partially as a surprise -- the project began less than a year after the UK version released. That being said, there are remakes, and then there’s complete copies. Check out the trailer below.

This version of Death at a Funeral stars Chris Rock, Zoe Saldana, Danny Glover, James Marsden, Luke Wilson, Martin Lawrence, Peter Dinklage, Tracy Morgan and Ron Glass. »

'Death at a Funeral' Trailer Causes Death to Fun

5 December 2009 2:03 PM, PST | Cinematical | See recent Cinematical news »

Oh, Screen Gems, Screen Gems, Screen Gems. You guys just can't crank 'em out fast enough, huh? Last year, you managed to be in the process of remaking [Rec] while it was still making the festival rounds, and this year, we see the trailer for next year's more multi-cultural remake of 2007's Death at a Funeral. (It's after the jump.)

Neil Labute of Lakeview Terrace fame replaces Frank Oz to direct a cast that includes Chris Rock, Danny Glover, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Columbus Short, and a handful of white people - including James Marsden in Alan Tudyk's under-the-influence funeral guest role (inspired casting, I'll admit) and Peter Dinklage in the part last played by... Peter Dinklage. Hell, even the same screenwriter is credited, because the screenplay would appear to be almost identical, save for a few more race-related remarks.

Far be it from me to judge from just two minutes, »

Death at a Funeral Trailer: Could Be Ok, But It’s Not the Same

5 December 2009 10:24 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

There's something to be said about remakes, I know. And over the course of the nearly 4-year existence of Film School Rejects, we've said a lot about them. Overall, the sentiment we all seem to feel is a negative one. We question whether Hollywood is even interested in having original ideas, and celebrate those rare movies that aren't derived from something made in another time. But rarely do we see such a quick turnaround on a remake (outside the horror genre) as we do with Neil Labute's Death at a Funeral. The original Death at a Funeral, directed by Frank Oz, starred Brit Matthew McFayden as a man who dealing with the death of his father by trying to wrangle together his hysterical mother, his playboy brother (Rupert Graves) and a host of ridiculous guests. This included, oddly enough, a hilariously drugged Alan Tudyk getting naked and ending up on the roof and a mysterious little »

Movie Trailer: Chris Rock’s Death At A Funeral Remake

5 December 2009 9:57 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Screen Gems has released the first trailer for Chris Rock-produced re-imagining of Frank Oz's 2007 British comedy Death at a Funeral. Although Oz's original was well-received by many critics, it didn't get very much traction with theatergoers, drawing only a niche audience. The new film has a primarily African-American cast and focuses on a funeral that "devolves into a debacle of misplaced cadavers, indecent exposure and family secrets." Basically, they have decided to remake an English-language film, dumbing down the jokes, in an effort to attract a more black audience (and to clarify: this comment is a statement on Hollywood chooses to treat ticket-buying African-Americans, and not a statement on the intelligence of that audience). It seems completely unnecessary. If you think that sounds horrible, watch the trailer -- it's much worse. Chris Rock's Death at a Funeral Urban Remake Trailer Debut

4 December 2009 5:00 PM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Okay, I'm admittedly a little bias. Death at a Funeral, the original Frank Oz version, is one of my favorite comedies. I was one of the first people to see it at its world premiere and supported it all the way through its release. Somehow, Chris Rock got his hands on the remake rights, and in no time whipped out a terrible remake. So here we have the "urban" version of Death at a Funeral starring Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, Tracy Morgan, Danny Glover, James Marsden, Luke Wilson, and the beautiful Zoe Saldana. The only funny part about this is that they re-used Peter Dinklage, who starred in the original, in the same exact role again. You've no doubt heard of Frank Oz, and depending on when you first became aware of him, you'll either think of him as the man with his hand up Jim Henson's Muppets, or as a quirky and inventive fantasy director. Either way, he's had a strong influence on the genre, having started his career in puppetry when he was eleven years old. How did this background in puppetry shape his »

Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody' Gets The Muppet Treatment

25 November 2009 7:00 AM, PST | MTV Newsroom | See recent MTV Newsroom news »

Are we in the middle of the great Muppet resurgence? "Sesame Street" is celebrating its triumphant 40th anniversary, "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" star Jason Segal is working on a new Muppet film and the felt friends will put out a new album called Muppets Revisited in February of next year (it will feature bands like Weezer, the Fray and My Morning Jacket covering classic Muppet tunes). For the video below, the Muppets paid tribute to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" with a spot-on parody of both the song and the classic video.

The clip features plenty of Muppet heavy hitters like Gonzo, Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy and Rizzo the Rat, but also has drop-ins from Sam Eagle, Swedish Chef and Camilla the Chicken. The best moment comes during the "Mama" portion of the tune, which features a lead vocal from Animal (Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem make their appearance later). Most notably, »

Donny & Kym, Mya & Dmitry, and Kelly & Louis emerge from the other side of the stage and run past the eliminated contestants. Louis got a lot of butt slaps; he giggles and continues walking.

We get a recap of last night, ad in the middle of the recap we have the back of Miss Piggy's head. Was that the spaghetti cat of Dwts? The recap played again right after a commercial break.

The best part of the night wasn't the results, it was Miss Piggy laying the smackdown on Samantha Harris.

"Fat Actress" star Kirstie Alley, 58, once again uses her yoyo weight issues to contrive yet another show about her shedding her massive weight gain. Showtime was home to "Fat Actress," a short-lived 2005 series that saw Kirstie Alley battle weight and Hollywood. Alley then secured a lucrative Jenny Craig spokesperson deal that had the comedic actress reveal a svelte 175 pound bikini-clad body to Oprah Winfrey's audience in 2006. Now the Scientology devotee is to star in a TV series for what the actress called in a Twitter message a "very funny docu about me losing weight, raising unpretentious kids, and biz" and just recently, "Just watched Opra myself.. Labyrinth and The Dark Crystal Blu-ray Reviews

7 October 2009 9:02 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

For most people, just coming up with a cast of characters as wonderfully lovable as the Muppets - to say nothing of helping spearhead a pair of television classics as durable as The Muppet Show and Sesame Street - would be enough to justify an early and lucrative retirement. For Jim Henson, however, those feats only scratched the surface of his ambition, and by the early ’80s, the man who helped turn puppets from a sideshow trick into an art form was ready to try his hand at slightly more grown-up fare. The results were 1982’s The Dark Crystal and 1986’s Labyrinth, a pair of PG-rated fantasy films that connected the dots between The Muppet Movie and The Lord of the Rings. Neither film made much of an impression at the box office, but they’ve both acquired cult status over the years - and now they’ve both been »

1999: A Year In Review (Part One)

Many films come out every year with critics and fans alike, compiling lists of their bests and worsts. There are also many films that fall between the cracks, only to be discovered years later. Kermit the Frog knows Miss Piggy might make it impossible, but he would still love the chance to see his Vma date, Lady Gaga, again, even though he's confirmed that the pair are only friends.

"I'd love to hang out with Lady Gaga," he told MTV News about the Vma winner. "And if it wasn't for Miss Piggy's restraining order, and left hook, I would. ... Lady Gaga and I haven't spoken since the VMAs. We tried texting, but Miss Piggy keeps jamming the signal."

Given Gaga's penchant for costume changes and performance art, it seems like Kermit probably wouldn't know what to expect from another encounter with the pop star. As for her multiple outfits on Sunday, he says he loved everything. »
