For more than a year, I've been hearing about this new Blu-Ray format. My understanding -- and PLEASE, correct me if I'm wrong -- is that in order to watch and enjoy a Blu-Ray disc, you have to buy their machines. A Blu-Ray disc won't work on a conventional DVD player.
But DVDs work just fine! I have 20-20 (corrected) vision, and I am very happy with the look of good DVDs on my 42-inch plasma screen. So WHY are Blu-Rays being thrust upon us?
My fear is that Blu-Ray will eventually supplant DVDs, just as VHS supplanted Beta, and just as DVDs ousted VHS. The only winners I see here are the manufacturers of all the new equipment we will need to buy.
